    1. Keep it shut down until the midterms.  Thats how we can sweep them.

Plus why restart the fascist machine?  Keep it shutdown!

Honestly I’m ready to send any incumbent that gets primaried packing if I didn’t see them actively fighting this regime. Secondly even if they did if they are over 62 the general retirement age they gone it’s time for young blood in the system. I’d make an exception for Bernie but I don’t get to vote for him.

    3. It’s pretty lose-lose right now. Real people are suffering real consequences. But if you capitulate you lose worse because it was basically for nothing.

    4. Let him kill the fillibuster, its going to screw the GOP more than the Dems, that thing provides cover for a moderate republican to toe the party line without the fear of bad legislation actually being passed.

    5. Designer-Contract852 on

They cave , all the American people lose both red and blue alike.

    6. ProfessionalCraft983 on

100% Caving would be the absolute *stupidest* thing they could do right now. They have all momentum, all the cards, everything in their advantage. If they cave now, everyone will be pissed at them because this will all have been for nothing. They absolutely *must* hold out for at least temporary funding on ACA credits until the GOP have a replacement plan so that people’s healthcare doesn’t skyrocket overnight. If not, it’s over.

    7. Whatever happens, if the government ever reopens, it’s going to be spun as a cave by the Dems and a “art of the deal” triumph by Trump. We’ve preemptively lost the messaging battle so we need to make sure we get something real.

    8. This is correct. Right now, Americans agree with Dems that it is good to fight for healthcare costs, and Americans blame Republicans for allowing costs to go up. If Dems re-open the government, then Americans will view them as having inflicted pain for no reason and at no benefit to anyone. And if Dems then shut down the government again, then Americans won’t see it as a moral action but petulance.

Republicans are paying a political cost for the shutdown already. Democrats will pay a political cost if they re-open with nothing to show for it. Republicans know that. So they think its in their calculated best interest to force Democrats to re-open for nothing, so they incur political harm. The only way to convince Republicans to negotiate is to convince Republicans that the political harm they will incur if they fail to negotiate is greater than the political harm Democrats will incur if they re-open for nothing.

And you see that with Trump after the elections this week.

As much as i come down on leftists… i 100% can get behind this. And if THIS is what gets the left really energized, so be it.

I’ll take Antifa over maga… I hope it sticks this time.

    10. I’m an old school Democrat centrist, and I will leave the fucking party if the Dems capitulate on this shutdown.

Thank you leftists for holding their feet to the fire.

    11. ACA Premiums going up 2 to 5x what they were last year needs shouted from the mountaintops.

With people dropping ACA coverage now United, Kaiser, BCBS and the other bloodsucking insurance middlemen will pass the loss onto private plans provided by your employer. People are going to be in for a rough wake up call when next years enrollments start.

    12. Keep it shutdown. It’s a win-win situation for democrats right now. Either republicans compromise or they end the filibuster to deprive Americans of healthcare which will help us pass legislation when we get control.

    13. LowHistorian9654 on

Newb at politics here, but can someone ELI5 what a filibuster is and why it sounds so stupid? That last part is optional.

Friendly reminder, if you have Democratic senators, write to them and tell them to hold firm.

    15. IF the dems cave, that has to be it. I don’t want to see a single supporter of any member that caves.

All that suffering needs a meaning and the republicans are on the ropes, KEEP THE DAMN PRESSURE UP.

Call your reps. tell them don’t cave.

„You have to get everybody in a room. You have to be a leader. The president has to lead. He has to get (the Speaker of the House) and everybody else in a room, and they have to make a deal.“

„Unfortunately, he has never been a dealmaker. That wasn’t his expertise before he went into politics and it’s obviously not his expertise now. But you have to get the people in a room and you have to get a deal.“

    17. Pleas don’t cave. Republicans simply don’t have the votes to condemn 4 million Americans to death. It is up to Republicans to open this government without killing innocents.

    18. The buck stops with the President. He is 100% responsible for this mess and can move to correct. Never give in.

    19. seanightowl on

If the dems in the senate pass it, the house will still be shutdown. They can’t allow the Epstein files to be released.

    20. goddamn_leeteracola on

The dems need to be on all networks daily giving updates on the “negotiations” taking place. If republicans aren’t showing up, call them out on the news. Keep the narrative that dems want to negotiate an end to this.

    21. morbidlonging on

You know it’s not JUST progressives doing this. My mother is a white boomer, a Joe Biden/Hilary supporter, basic bread and butter democrat, and she is pissed about all this. She called both our senators today to tell them they better not cave to anything.

    22. kamikaziboarder on

The woman in the picture. Jeanne Shaheen. Take a look at her Facebook posts. She rolls over so easily. I don’t consider her a democrat. She always says that’s more important to be bipartisan and “working across the table” than any other policy. I have reached out to her multiple times. It’s always the same bipartisan this, bipartisan that. She has voted multiple times for Trump judge nominees.

Edit: Maggie Hassen…spoke to her face to face before. She is creepy and rolls over as well.

    23. So far I’ve only seen one Dem willing to cave, and he’s a stroke patient.

Trump just broadcast to everyone his belief that the shutdown was one of the two reasons Republicans lost so badly. Why in God’s name would *any* Democrat back down now?
