After a high-stakes campaign and record voter turnout, Zohran Mamdani has been projected as the winner of the 2025 New York City mayor’s race, securing approximately 50.4% of the vote compared to Andrew Cuomo’s 41.6% and Curtis Sliwa’s 7.1%.
Mamdani, a 34-year-old former state assemblyman from Queens, is poised to become the city’s first Muslim mayor, the first of South Asian heritage, and the youngest to hold the office in over a century.

I was really pulling for Sliwa there. I knew it was a longshot, but I still had hopes he’d snatch a surprise 2nd place after his fantastic debate performances.

Good luck, NY. Hope he delivers those campaign promises for you.

More Mamdani’s, less republicans, less establishment, less centrists. People need change.

what this map is telling me is that I shouldn’t live in Central Park or I won’t get a vote

Staten Island and Long Island are exactly where the problem lies. Long Island are rich people. Staten Island are not rich people but vote along side rich people

Would be great if someone can help correlate this with NYC demographics for some insights!

Reddit is bursting with NYC mayor news. Any reason it’s significant? Why should I care?
Edit: this is a genuine question, not a hate comment

You have to wonder about the sad, depressed mental state of the people who voted for Cuomo.
As an upstate New Yorker I can’t believe that many people voted for Cuomo. But us upstate people have had a much worse opinion of him for years even before everything came out against him. I am glad he didn’t win he needs to retire and keep his nose clean. (Though we know he won’t)

What’s the predominantly Cuomo area on the bottom left called, and why is that different?

Ask people who know nothing about this race who they think is the socialist candidate in this picture.

Can a new yorker explain to me why the east side, Battery park city and Tribeca are voting cuomo?

Clearly Silwa lost because he didn’t run on on theme song: „*He wore a raspberry beret…“*

So basically republicans voted for Coumo

Im not a republican or a New Yorker but, poor Sliwa man. I knew there was no way he was going to win but the guy really cares about New York and was just fascinating to listen to.
I wouldn’t want him as my mayor but, I would love to play a game of pool with him at a dive bar.

Glad our optimism wasn’t misplaced and people actually showed up to vote this time around.
This is a good day.

Cuomo being that high is diabolical

Funny thing about scale, my electoral district in Eastern Queens had less total voters (200) than Mamdani voters in like a single apartment building in the Lower East Side. Proud to be one of 88 who voted for Mamdani hahaha.

This has got to be a record low for Republicans in New York!
