    1. And people are surprised/outraged/shovked because..????

Newsflash people: politicians and royal family members pretend to address the concerns of those who keep them in power, the people, all while doing absolutely nothing about it because their only purpose is to serve themselves.

    2. I get the sentiment, but celebrities traveling for climate change conferences aren’t that bad. I doubt he would be here if he had to travel business class. And hopefully a prince being on that side of the cause will have a net positive impact, even if he’s a hypocrite. I mean, hypocrisy is in every royal family nature, they just call it royal protocol or court etiquette or some other shit.

So having him traveling 5000 miles is like spending $10k on solar panels – spend some to save in a long run

WTF is going on in that bald head of his?

Bros wtf is going on with this planet. Since harambe died we are in a south park episode

Flying on a private jet to fight climate change is the same as drinking for sobriety

    5. They need these big names to attend to draw publicity to their cause.
Yet here we are, very little publicity for the climate change. The world is tired of the scaremongering.

All these activists should just do zoom conferences to set a good example instead of flying to fancy resorts or conferences. Is this the conference where they cut a huge road from the city through a rain forest to the conference sight and wouldn’t allow the locals to use said road?

    7. That is such a childish logic. That’s like saying a person who teaches others not to smoke smokes themself. And ? If they do a million times more good by their actions than bad then what does it matter ?

Why do people want to force everyone into a stinking bus ride along with everyone else? Wealthy people will always own big slots of land and fly private jets the environmental impact of their actions is so tiny it’s just meaningless. The actions of their policies are the opposite so maybe focus on that.

This climate conference in Brazil didn’t they cut down a huge area of rainforest to make way for a run way for their lrivaye jets. Even though the Brazilian rainforests are the lungs of the earth??

But yeah there is a climate crisis

I think it was last year somewhere in the middle east.I think the climate summit/conference was held and people flew from around the world to it. Didn’t see much backlash to it.

This is the kind of stupid hill the left dies on. Hows this guy supposed to get there?!

    11. The enemy of good is perfect.

Stop getting angry at things not being perfect by people and organizations looking to do good things.

It might be an unpopular opinion, but the contribution of executive personal jet travel is in the noise w.r.t. global CO2 emissions, and I think these people optimizing their *time* is a valid use.

Prince William is supporting the fight for climate change, which is a worldwide *industrial* problem.

Insisting than an individual „do his part“ or „lead by example“ is an immature take.

He flew commercial to Brazil. This story left that out and just hopes you will assume he flew private.

Billionaires and oil CEO fly constantly, why are we attacking and focusing on the tiny minority trying to fight it?

It just shows how unrealistic reducing emissions actually is when the talkers can’t even do it

ooo please tell me what great wisdom some pompous bigot prince is going to share

    17. And in an alternate universe: „Prince William slammed for not attending the Brazil Eartshot event leading public to wonder what the point of the monarchy is“. We just love to be outraged.

    18. JustAcanthaceae497 on

It’s wild how quickly the focus shifts from the actual issue to attacking the person. The point about ‚the enemy of good is perfect‘ is so true here; demanding flawless behavior from everyone is a great way to ensure nothing ever gets done. We should be scrutinizing the systems and policies that make such flights seem necessary, not just the individual act. Otherwise, we’re just getting distracted from the larger, more important conversation.

    19. Thank FUCK the top comments are actually common sense. I hate this ‚Why doesn’t Greta canoe across the ocean if she wants to reduce CO2‘ shite.

Article conveniently leaves out he flew on a commercial BA flight, and is achieving exactly what it wanted to by people leaving comments outraged that he used a private jet.

Climate change fights is one thing, but unfortunately flying is too integral to the world now. Its never going away no matter how bad the planet gets. We would run out of natural fuel before people say we should stop flying.

    22. GiganticusMagnifico on

      Definitely should just walk/swim.

In honesty it’s better than Taylor Swift flying across what should be a 1-2 hour drive

    23. NationalFlea on

Medicine also hurts the environment to produce let’s not bother. Actually let’s just all commit suicide then we will have zero carbon emissions
