      * Democrat Zohran Mamdani won the New York City mayoral race on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
      * The 34-year-old assemblyman defeated former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who ran as an independent, and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa.
      * Mamdani will take office on Jan. 1, 2026, succeeding embattled one-term Mayor Eric Adams and making history as the first Muslim and democratic socialist leader of America’s biggest city.

      As someone living in Australia and vaguely following this for the past two weeks I had no idea he was Muslim until he won. Why is it so important to say it now? All that matters as he does a good job his faith has nothing to do with being a good person and a good leader. I hope all the best for him. Bye putting that in the title just irks me and comes across as rage bait for the MAGA crowd
