    1. It’s the loss of institutional knowledge that really disturbs me (and not just in science, but across all levels of our government). Yes, we can rebuild whatever is ruined, but building takes a long time, and it took a long time to get to where we are today. You can’t simply put Humpty Dumpty back together again.

    2. No, it won’t. Science will be just fine.

      The US, on the other hand, not so much. But that’s the end of every empire, they inevitably fall, there’s no escaping it, as a result of the things they had to do to become an empire in the first place.

    3. There are plenty of foreign countries that welcome the opportunity to jump in and and bridge the gap. They will benefit at our expense and security, but science still reigns as a tool that drives commerce and warfare.

      Sounds like a skill issue on scientists part. They are fundamentally losing the information war.
