Conflating regular work migration and illegal or semi-legal migration is problematic. Pretty much every European country needs regular, official work migration. That doesn´t mean that other forms of migration are not a problem.

not sure there is a causation… if anything there is failed promise that was never an option within the framework of the EU. It’s the „vote for me I will give them hell but am moderate enough to be compatible with the EU“ kind of approach. Not like far right would have changed anything…

Man the thing is that more and more of those are legal immigrants as a share. More and more illegal immigrants are stuck in North Africa while Italy is getting the immigrants with visa. Granted they are not all engineers either but Italy is loosing so much that they need to take everything no?
In Poland there was exactly the same outcome. They were selling visas left and right in Africa allowing people to enter Poland and EU. Far right scumbags
So, the title is blatantly misleading. The government drastically reduced the illegal immigration, which is what most people worry about (lowest point from 2015 btw) while also increasing temporary legal work visas. Which is a huge success but not so much a clickbait I guess.

The Italian far right seem to have an ability to understand numbers: European native birthrates are very bad all around, but Italy is among the worse and has been for a while. The threat of an aging average population where fewer younger working individuals support a growing number of older people with costly health care needs Is FAR more dangerous to a nation than a few radicals who won’t assimilate/integrate.
Don’t want in immigrants? Have kids and pressure governments for better family benefits to encourage the same.

Neither the left nor the right can truly stop the arrival of immigrants in Italy. The only certainty is that the left wants them and foolishly believes that Europe (which is a group of countries that DON’T want migrants) should take responsibility for them.
