That is what corporations do, use promises to get money from various governments and then do whatever the hell they want to.

OTTAWA – Industry Minister Mélanie Joly says the federal government is launching a dispute resolution process against Stellantis for moving planned vehicle production from its Brampton, Ont. plant out of the country.
Joly told a parliamentary committee this morning the formal, 30-day process is aimed at recovering Canadian taxpayer money and returning production to the Brampton facility.
She said the process is underpinned by government contracts with the carmaker and will be initiated by the end of the business day.
Joly says she met with autoworkers in Brampton last week and that the company must be held accountable for breaking its promises.
Stellantis decided last month to move planned production of its Jeep Compass from Brampton to Illinois, which prompted the federal government to threaten legal action.
The company’s president, Jeff Hines, testified last week that the company’s decision to move its Jeep production out of Canada was “not taken lightly.”
This report by The Canadian Press was first published Nov. 3, 2025.

I cant think of a better solution than the government appropriate the land which is central Brampton and then build a whole whack of government housing. It’s a massive compound that is already on all major public transportation routes. Just take it. Fuck em.

She said they “promised” this woman has a child’s understanding of how things work. Are they in breach of contract or not? It’s pretty simple. This same Government wants more money tomorrow, we need to know what they did with this 15 billion before anybody can be comfortable giving them more rope. It seems like they essentially are paying for Stellantis to do business here and didn’t even have the wherewithal to get any guarantees in writing?

Who is the arbitrator that will handle this dispute?.
Also I thought the funding from gov was based on the output of the factory yearly. We didn’t pay them fully before the work was completed. So basically we have not yet lost money to this company right?

This assumes that after 2-3 years of going through this process the rule of law will still matter. Companies across the world are operating in flagrant violation of US laws bc they don’t believe the law will matter in the near future.

They also never paid back the government loan from 2009. Deadbeat FCA/Stellantis
Get every single penny back that was used to support them. And then slap a tariff on their vehicles not made in Canada

Just kick their asses out, and give their buildings and assets to whichever Chinese manufacturer wants to build cars in Canada and give Canadians jobs.
Time to get tough on American capital
