Democrat here. I’m not bracing for anything. It’s long overdue. The rest of the old guard of ineffective leaders should also go. Start with Schumer.

Bracing is a bit of hyperbole. She’s 85 and none us of get out of this place alive.

She will have a place in the pantheon of great Speakers, along with Rayburn, Cannon and O’Neil.

And she had a lot smaller margin that they had.

She’s the most effective behind the scenes Dem politician since LBJ,but she absolutely should retire. Even if just the practical reason of the fact a vacant safe D seat due to an Octanegerian dying in office is esssentially a gain of a seat for the GOP since even in safe seats where the house member has a gov of their party speed rushing the special election it still leaves a seat vacant for a good chunk of the their tenture..

Pelosi blocked AOC from the House Oversight committee. So yeah, good riddance, she can say goodbye to her insider stock trading.

    5. She is 85.

My dad died at 83. Politicians need term limits. They shouldn’t be allowed decades of power and corruption.

Whether or not she retires, there is a couple democrats vying for her seat. Saikat Chakrabarti is further to the left on policies and is almost fifty years younger.

    7. She was the most effective Speaker and Legislator and Deal Maker in her time in the House. I agree her stepping down from leadership was a little overdue to make room for Jeffries. Her power behind the scenes is what finally forced Biden to step down from running, but it also has hindered a newer generation of politician from stepping up to energize the party, like stopping AOC from leading a committee, that is prime for TV theatrics, with a 70 something year old that still acts like it is the normal times….

Flawed, to be sure, her leadership and value to the party should be celebrated. But retirement probably could have come a little sooner.

The entire old guard needs to go. She is one of the most effective speakers of house ever, but young innovators need to be given their time in leadership.

She is a trail blazer but it is time for her to go. Thank you for your service, Nancy.

She was a masterful politician. However, at 85 years old, it’s time to hang it up. Democrats lost like 6 people who died in office last session. These people need to move over and let younger people have a turn.

But if she retires who will my mom blame for committing crimes every time the GOP regime actively violates the constitution?

    12. Pelosi said, „Honey, I’ve got protest signs older than you in my basement.“ to AOC.

And they haven’t seen the light of day since the 70’s.

      Go home, Nancy.

It wouldnt be a problem if these people would just resign. Just time it right before an election so you can leave office when your replacement comes in. Instead they pull a RBG and die in office, leaving an empty seat when it matters most.

    14. If she did nothing to prepare or train any successors then she is a failure just for that.

    15. At 85? So soon? 🙄

We really need term limits that are much lower than „limit up to, but may not to exceed, death.“

      Brace?

Like what? As a democrat, what exactly am I grabbing onto to steady myself with this shock wave.

In other words – are you fucking kidding me?

      Can I help her pack?

I support term & age limits for congress. Nancy needs to GTFO already. As does Grace Napolitano (D), Bill Pascrell (D), Hal Rodgers (R), Maxine Waters (D) Steny Hoyer (D), & Charles Grassley (R).

We need younger members in congress who are more in touch with real Americans, not just the billionaires.
