The Ministry of Defence has given orders to shoot down unknown drones flying over army bases, according to army chief Frederik Vansina. A programme to protect our country against drones is being implemented at an accelerated pace, according to the head of the Belgian army. A plan to this effect will be presented to the Council of Ministers shortly.

If drones appear above army bases, heavy weapons may be brought in. ‘When we spot a drone above a military base, we are allowed to interfere with it and shoot it down,’ army chief Frederik Vansina told VRT NWS.

However, he added that this is conditional on the drones being shot down in a ‘sensible’ manner, i.e. without causing ‘collateral damage’.

The means to combat drones – detection equipment, jammers and drone guns – are currently limited. Shooting down a drone is not easy, explains the army chief. After all, they fly at night, are small and very manoeuvrable.

I fully agree with this attitude, but what are the most cost effective ways to do so? Those drones are cheap as hell.

      Great!

Then you will tell us wgat kind of drones thos were, and where they came from.

      Right?

    4. Seems odd to me that it’s taking countries so long to respond to overflights and mysterious drones over air-bases. It doesn’t really say a lot about how ready Europe would be to respond to a sudden wave of air strikes.

I believe at this point we are required by law to refer to them as „plucky little Belgium“

    6. You’d need specialized anti-drone weapons for that not conventional guns that fire bullets, as the Chief of Defense himself said. It’s to risky to fire with Bullets on drones..

But the whole drone issue across Europe seems strange to me anyway. It gives off similar vibes to the Nord Stream explosions.

    7. They won’t be able to take down any of these objects just like they weren’t when they were all over New Jersey last year.

    8. Country where NATO has HQ can’t even figure out where drones in its airspace come from and until now apparently hasn’t even had the policy of shooting them down when they’re above their freaking military bases. Unless yanks get their shit together, we’re fucked. Unbelievable how pathetic we’ve become as a continent.
