US Preclearance at Dublin airport is great for connecting flights in the US. No need to go through immigration, collect your bags, go through customs, check-in your bag again and go through security like normal for connecting flights originating outside the US.

It would be nice to see the same map from the US.

For how close the portuguese islands are to North America, it’s pretty crazy that there’s only 1-5 direct flights. Especially, since there are a lot of Portuguese transplants in Boston and Toronto.

Am I right in assuming the 1 destination of many of the red dots is NYC?
Or would some be different? Boston, Philly etc

i usually use flight connections dot com but this is pretty handy.

Wow the canaries don’t have a single flight to the US?!

Hi ! If this is your first map, congratulation. Just a tinny think to improve on. Try to make the objects in the legend as big as the one of the map, especially if size is important.

Surprising lack of German airports. Is it because people just fly into Frankfurt/Munich and then take the ICE?

the legend being different from the circles on the map confuses me 😅

Delta used to fly direct Atlanta to Stuttgart, Germany. They stopped it a couple of years back.

Barcelona is pretty surprising here in the 10-20 category. ORD is my home airport and I’ve never seen a direct route to BCN from here (unless it’s very new and I missed it). Kinda surprising at least 10 other cities get direct service but not us.

Rzeszów has to be the most random.
All the other Red does can be explained with tourism, but I really don’t know where the demand for a transatlantic connection to this average town in Poland comes from

Couldn’t find a single nonstop flight from Faro, Portugal.

Rzeszów is the main NATO airport for equipment going to Ukraine.
I’m hoping all those flights are for US „advisors“ going to/from Ukraine.
There are no direct flights from Budapest to the USA right now

Just a tip from a cartographer: legend items are always the *exact* same in size as they are on the map.

I’m surprised that there are so many Italian destinations, instead of having all the international flights funnel through a few airports. It does speak to how many Italian-Americans have roots in Sicily though.

Wait there is a direct flight from Dubrovnik but not from Zagreb in Croatia?

not a direct flight to USA but to Toronto (Canada), is one from the small italian city of Pescara, seasonal in the summer only, mostly catering to the large population descendants from Abbruzzi and Molise region, now living in Ontario province.

No direct flights to grammar school, huh?
Rzeszow needs to increase the number of flights to at least 10
The Santiago de Compostela to New York flight is not yet in operation, it will start in May.
