      Tbf, painting the person who built the church (with a model of said Church in his hand) is a tradition in Orthodoxy. Every such church has this.

      I am more worried about streets having his name or Octavian Goga‘ s name. Or other rabid antisemites.

      What you would do if Hitler comes to you as leader of your country and tells you “ your country or a massacre?“. For sure he was in a very difficult situation to choose, so he chose the people. Sometimes in life we have to make a sacrifice in order other to live in peace. Just and ordinary opinion.

      Erasing history leads to repeating the same mistakes. The history is complex, anyone interested in it cannot understand it without significant research work.

      Afaik, founders and contributors who built a church, have a right to have their image put on a church wall. Only thing that differentiates them from saints is saints’ halo which is missing.

      This is bs, imo. Yes, he was a horrible individual. But the tradition itself is nonsensical, to be honest.

      Since you’re talking about Romania, take, for instance, Stephen the Great. Cool guy, you might think – until you learn about all the pillaging this guy’s done. And the other stuff, from selling slaves to whatnot. Hell, he’s even been sanctified. Same with other „national heroes“ we pretend to have. The only difference is that Antonescu’s regime has been well documented and relatively recent compared to others.

      So yeah, get him down. And also get the others down, churches shouldn’t be about this.

      Absolutely abhorrent IMO. Romania has so many figures to admire and worship, this dipshit that was friends with Hitler and ran Romania for a few years, brought nothing but suffering during his tenure and after.
