I’m a former Marine, now teaching English in Kyushu prefecture. On Halloween, I went into a bar with some friends and a Japanese local immediately rushed at me, drunk, and snagged the bucket of candy I had in my hands that I was passing out to everyone that night and yelled “Treat or Punch” multiple times. But, being a former Marine, I knew how to conduct myself and knew the consequences if I went along with his request.
So I backed off and offered him a candy, but he refused and almost refused to give me my bucket of candy back. So I grabbed it and said “I’m sorry, take care” and wished everyone in the establishment a good night. Me and my friends were so confused after we left. But a fun story that I’m going to tell my coworkers this week! lol so yeah, this could happen to either side, is what I’m trying to get at.

Typical US Marine behaviour.
