Kudos to New Mexico. These families will have more buying power which in the long run, will help the retail economy tremendously.

In response, Trump will now send in the national guard to the hell hole violent New Mexico and demand his DoJ indict the criminal leadership of New Mexico.

This is the most left thing I think I’ve ever seen in the US in my lifetime. Hopefully we’ll be able to point to this when arguing over new legislation.

Slow clap. This is what government should be doing. Investing in and Working for the people.

Surprise! The care provider/center needs to opt into the program and many of the good ones won’t. It should just be a straight credit on your return

I don’t see any info on how much these ‚vouchers‘ will be for, which is the real tell. Daycare is expensive. Good daycare even more so. Will the state pay for quality daycare?

    7. I don’t think how many people don’t realize how much childcare is. It’s almost $2000/mo on the cheap end to watch your kid (just one) from 9-5. If you make $15/hr, you don’t even take that much home after taxes.

    8. A crack in the dam. Mamdani could be another crack in the dam. Eventually, they might have to admit that America *should* be wealthy enough to offer its citizens basic services taken for granted in far poorer countries. And that if we’re not, something funky might be going on…

Be nice if Florida did something like that, instead paying $27k a year for 3 kids …

This is why I – as a man, father, and executive – believe wholeheartedly that in general women make better long term community leaders. It’s also why as an American, I moved my family abroad to countries where universal healthcare and education is a right and matter of course. And these countries are way poorer than the US.

Tldr; good job New Mexico. US will be better when there is a rule that its political leadership needs to reflect its population demographics.

The problem with vouchers is the same as it ever was.

Capitalism will absorb the vouchers and still maximise profits resulting in inflation in childcare costs.

      Meanwhile.
      >The state is establishing a $12.7 million low-interest loan fund to construct and expand child care facilities. It is also increasing reimbursement rates to providers that pay entry-level staff a minimum of $18 per hour, above the state’s $12 hourly minimum wage, and offer full-time care.
