The BSW had been polling much more strongly for a long time, but a late surge by Die Linke pushed it down just enough to not hit the 5% threshold. BSW and Die Linke draw from largely the same voter pool: Die Linke is the successor of the former Communist Party, and BSW was a splinter consisting of more culturally conservative and anti-immigration members of Die Linke.

It was so great on election day when FDP and BSW failed to reach the threshold.
Now those two are polling even worse 🎉

Is BSW a pro-russian party?

How does a party win 4.98% of the vote and not win any seats? Doesn’t Germany have like 600 seats in their federal Parliament? Are they not proportionally divided? Or is it more like the system in the USA, where seats go by state/Land? But then I’d expect some East German seats to go to them. How does it work?
