We have so many diversions, now. We can’t consume everything. We’re trying, though.

    2. I don’t get why there are all these news stories about how big of a star The Rock is when he keeps making all these flops

Our country is falling apart, going to the movies isn’t really a thing right now.

    4. There’s kind of a lot going on economically right now. Not much money for entertainment. Especially with such unappealing choices.

Does Hollywood actually think we want more of Jared Leto? How many terrible movies do they think they can trick us into watching?

Have that thought about putting that Jared Leto guy in a blockbuster? I bet that would fix things.

Is it me or does it feel like a lot of movies aren’t even in theaters very long?

When is October ever a good box office month? It’s just like Feb and March, they never release any hits during those months.

Wow it’s almost like movies are really expensive just like everything else, and people are very selective on what movies they go see

No one wants to go see the same damn movies over and over again.  America (I’m speaking from my geographical perspective) is in upheaval and movies are the LAST THING on many peoples‘ minds.

Again, there is no incentive to sit in a theater full of people who can no longer pay fucking attention for 2 minutes.

I saw absolutely no marketing for smashing Machine. Didn’t realize it was out. Would have liked to seen it.

It’s like people really don’t understand that spending money on movies is not a priority right now for a lot of people

    13. We can’t afford to go to the movies and we are too tired after working .

I would argue that it’s all reflective of where the cost of living situation is at globally, which is not good.

Maybe if it didn’t cost $90+ for my wife, daughter, and I to go see a movie with a few snacks we would go.

Well yeah. You think I have extra money after bills to go see movies that don’t interest me?

I looked at what was playing in my local Cinemark on Friday, nothing really looked good except special screenings of older movies. Studios figured out they can release horror movies whenever and people will watch them all year long, so the October box office is slim pickings.

People expected The smashing machine to make excessive box office numbers lol?

It’s an indie film, with a niche subject, it was never going to crush it at the box office

I want to see running man. It might be the first movie I have seen in theaters since the dnd movie.

    20. All these articles have a „what could be going on?“ tone, with a lot of questions about particular actors, or genre fatigue, while aggressively ignoring that the American audience (at least) are being financially squeezed well beyond having discretionary funds to pop off to the (increasingly overpriced) movies.

    21. There are a lot of factors. Obviously streaming … huge, high-tech TVs … the price of a ticket. Also, Hollywood doesn’t seem to cater to their audience groups like they used to. They’ve mixed things up … tried different formulas.
