Mealy-mouthed equivocating. Not sure I’d expect anything different.

It’s actually a very thoughtful statement that’s hard to disagree with if you’re being fair-minded at all. A lot of the same people dragging her for saying this would also drag her for sticking her neck out, unless she did it absolutely perfectly and it also worked somehow. I have more respect for celebrities like De Niro who is making no bones about his feelings, to be sure, but it’s not like De Niro’s approach is bearing any practical fruit on its own.

Reading into her comments, she honestly sounds more exasperated than anything else. She probably feels the same burn as the rest of us who scream into the void.

She didn’t seem to be questioning speaking out against him when she was on the Graham Norton Show over here a couple of weeks ago and she talked about a tweet Trump made years ago when „he wasn’t president“ and „we could all sleep at night“. Wonder what changed in those two weeks.

Brains and beauty. Speak freely while we still can though imho

In general I feel everyone should be able to express themselves. However, celebrities live by a different set of rules to us “normal people” so I find it hard to listen to them complain about issues that almost never actually apply to them.

I’m respecting Robert Deniro more and more these days. Not only will I remember the traitors, I’ll also remember the fence sitters. When it becomes more popular to speak out, you will see these same fence sitters will find their voice! Cowards are what they are! Cowards and grifters just reaping the monetary rewards while watching the world burn!
It reminds me of a chapter in World War Z, when all the celebrities crowded together in one house. It didn’t end well for them…

Speaking only goes so far — actions speak louder than words. Americans speaking out against Trump should be asking themselves what more they can actually do, because the administration’s policies will affect their lives far more than they will a successful actress. She could easily move to another country if she wanted to.

This title is misleading. She still is speaking out, just not in the way she was before. She just makes all her political statements through her production company and those films they make. She don’t want her politics to affect her paychecks.

TLDR: Celebrities weighing in hasn’t changed anything. If all she’s doing is alienating people… then they wont see her movie. A movie… that may in fact do a better job swaying them than her just blunt statements.
It’s not a terrible argument. I can see it. People need to be lead places… and sometimes trying to explain it to them in quips to an interviewer isn’t going to work.
