That’s good, the only place on the internet with more annoying Irish people than reddit is [boards.ie](http://boards.ie), glad containment is staying up.

Bargain alerts is the only reason I’d use that site nowadays, while they have another year you have to ask what their long term plans will be to keep the lights on, can’t really expect to survive on less than 1000 subscribers.
I had wondered if that 100k target was intentionally inflated to push for more financial leeway, guess that was the case.
Will be interesting to see if „growth“ actually happens now, Odhran has been promising a lot since the ’21 (4 years!) technology switch.

Hmmm, I got a little lift seeing boards has survived a bit longer while being reminded of why I closed my account. I’ll never go back but in a world of scumbag media billionaires I’m glad a smallish site for Ireland exists. We’re just part of the machine here.
Good to see. Those hosting fees are far too high though, I hope they can figure out a more efficient setup.

Nothing ever happens.
Nothing describes boards better than how they had a target of €100k but in actual fact, all they needed was €32k.
Glad the people who use it regularly get to maintain their venue or conversation but the fundraiser they were running still feels like a grift.
A lot of the forums on there are just a clique of the long-term users. I’m glad they managed to keep their community going, but I feel like it’s just delaying the inevitable.

As it’s typical, Odhrán continuing to kick the can very much down the road to avoid tackling the real problem that is the site being owned and run like it’s a business rather than a community.
It doesn’t take a year to transfer ownership or start to add in community members to the fold to work on how things are run. Because by god they need new blood desperately — if you look at dispute resolution, I can see some threads that have been going on for almost a month with almost no responses…

The dedicated DIY, plumbing, EV, renewable energy etc forums are an unbelievable resource.
Trying to find Irish specific information on plumbing, showers, electrics is not good on Reddit, etc..
Plus any old topic on the above is gone in a few days & hard to find.
Whatever happens to boards in the short-medium term, I hope it eventually ends up in the hands of a museum or some sort of historical group for posterity – it’s a genuine artefact of the Irish web 1.0. Anthropologists of the future would have a goldmine on their hands.
