    1. Tone deaf? This dude couldn’t care less as long as he gets his picture taken in some shitty, gaudy gold candy wrapper foiled room.

    2. Is this Trump’s „Let Them Eat Cake“ moment? Where’s Jean Valjean when you need him?

    3. Vegetable-Seaweed591 on

The party’s theme was a very intentional choice, just like the giant ballroom. America is moving back to the age of the robber barons.

    4. HallucinogenicFish on

I’m not sure if it’s tone-deaf so much as deliberately, gleefully rubbing people’s noses in it.

    5. Trivia: It was two years and eight months from the last party at Versailles to the beheading of Louis XVI.

    6. Hopefully at some point one of these extravagant displays of luxury will become the „Let them eat cake!“ moment.

When peasants were threatened with starvation they didn’t roll over like we do today pacified by consumer goods; they overthrew the royals…

    8. OptimusSublime on

Tone deaf? This shit was intentional. They knew exactly what they were doing and they did it to make liberals cry.

Instead of focusing on the dumb theme focus on the fact they had the party at all.

our fellow Americans who continue to support and celebrate trump, best described as Completely Under Control of King Donald, would rather have 4 years of lavish balls (that they would never be invited to) than have universal healthcare, housing, or nourishment for their neighbors.

historically, hating anything approaching communism or socialism tracks for your average american… but I did think hating oligarchy, monarchs, tyrants was more or less foundational for calling yourself a true patriot.

the republican party, Saudi Arabi and Israel are not allies to the citizens of the USA! All three entities KILL AMERICAN CITIZENS without remorse and hesitation!

Celebrating the starvation death of Americans is what the donors of Citizens United and Project 2025 are eagerly awaiting! The donors knew in July of 2023, Americans would be killed by American Troops for them and kept sending billions!

We have already exceeded the levels of wealth disparity from the last gilded age, so this is right on brand for our oligarch overlords.

Our ~75 years of unprecedented growth of the middle class, improvements in productivity and technology, and improvement of social mobility and civil rights is all tied to the massive destruction of wealth controlled by societal elites in the market crash, depression, and world wars. C.f. the work of Thomas Piketty.

Allowing wealth to have accumulated to this extent again is a major driver of why we are where we are in terms of the collapse of democracy and rise of authoritarianism.

This is beyond belief. You have to be a complete and utter moron to not see the problem with this.

Yes, Eat and fatten up. We want you nice and plump for when the people start eating the rich.

And the thing is, he still looks like a miserable villain. Trump you can get your ballroom, fancy bathroom and all the golf trips- you will never be happy.

A Gatsby party? It’s been a long time since I read that book in 7th grade English class.

      What happened to Gatsby again?

    16. The historical parallels are so disorienting

Like the worst written movie script for how hard they’re pushing it; people would legit walk out of the theater irl

    17. Wild to see Trump, of all people, calling for the French Revolution. But I’m down if he is.

    18. An oblivious aristocracy will loose control and their lives if the starving populace looses patience or hope

      Russian Revolution

      French Revolution

      As Yogi Berra quippid,

„It’s deja vu all over again!“

An old school way of presenting pates on pikes is always a dramatic way ro affect social change.

The Washington Monument could be a prime location for a semi-circle of pikes arranged around the base of the tall obelisk

We’ve got history, methods and obviously candidates for this definitive process

      Let’s make this happen America!

    19. Notice in the photo he throws a Gatsby themed party but still shows up dressed as a clown.

    20. Ironic considering one of Gatsby’s main themes is the reckless steamrolling of the rich and entitled over the common people.

“After returning from a trip to Asia yesterday, Trump left this morning for his thirteenth visit to the Trump Organization’s Florida property Mar-a-Lago. S.V. Date of HuffPost notes this $3.4 million trip brings to $60.7 million the amount taxpayers have spent on the president’s 76 golf outings in his second term.

From Air Force One, Trump posted: “I renovated the Lincoln Bathroom in the White House. It was renovated in the 1940s in an art deco green tile style, which was totally inappropriate for the Lincoln Era. I did it in black and white polished Statuary marble. This was very appropriate for the time of Abraham Lincoln and, in fact, could be the marble that was originally there!”

Accompanying the post were a series of twenty-four photographs of the newly renovated bathroom in white marble veined with black, accented with gleaming gold fixtures.

At a time when federal employees are working without pay, furloughed workers are taking out bank loans to pay their bills, healthcare premiums are skyrocketing, and SNAP is at risk, Trump’s celebration of his marble bathroom was so tone deaf it seems likely to make the history books as a symbol of this administration.” Letters from an American, Heather Cox Richardson

Is it satire or is it just stupid? The line between has been so blurred by MAGA that I’m unsure it exists.

We need to new name for a round of Nuremberg style trials. Every admin official, ever ice officer, every paper pusher, every single need them will need to be given fair trials. Those found guilty given the maximum punishment for treason and sedition.

Wasn’t Gatsby a thief who ran booze and lived amongst the underlife of Long Island to be able to afford his lifestyle so that he could impress the upper crust. Despite not being one of them. That seems very appropriate for Trump to be a thief trying to rub elbows with the oligarchs

    25. mtnclimbingotter02 on

Trump hates everyone. Why are people surprised he did this? He’s doing this to laugh at everyone who’s beneath him.

America should take notice—this is what our future could look like. FAT cats dining while middle class and the poor struggle to feed our families, find a job and have some semblance of healthcare. My son turns 26 in Dec and will be removed from my health insurance. It scares the hell out of me—how will he pay for his health insurance? After college I wanted him to go to the military but he was rejected due to a birth injury. He is now doing DoorDash which scares me because of driving and potential for car accidents. WHYYYYY DID AMERICA PUT THIS POS IN THE WHITE HOUSE **AGAIN**?!

    27. Curi0us_Crafter on

It is not „tone deaf“ because they know exactly what they’re doing and are rubbing it in the poor communities faces that the government of pedo protectors get to eat while 42 million people starve. Sick.

      >Tensions had been rising since the opening of the Estates General in May, and on 14 July the Bastille was stormed. On 1 October a banquet was held in the Royal Opera House. The King’s Guards had decided to hold the banquet in honour of the arrival of the Regiment of Flanders, and a sumptuous feast for 210 guests was laid out in the Opera House. Wine flowed in abundance and toasts were made to the royal family, who were cheered upon their arrival. As they stepped out onto the stage, the orchestra played O Richard, O mon roi de Grétry. In the tense climate outside the doors, many considered such strident demonstrations of monarchic loyalty the ultimate act of provocation by the monarchy, and outrage spread through Paris. Gazettes portrayed the banquet as an orgy and claimed the tricolour cockade had been trampled underfoot, and that some had even turned it over to show only the white side, the symbol of the king. Organising a banquet when the people were going hungry was a step too far. Marat, Danton and Desmoulins rallied the people to march on Versailles.
