Our ~75 years of unprecedented growth of the middle class, improvements in productivity and technology, and improvement of social mobility and civil rights is all tied to the massive destruction of wealth controlled by societal elites in the market crash, depression, and world wars. Allowing wealth to have accumulated to this extent again is a major driver of why we are where we are in terms of the collapse of democracy and rise of authoritarianism.
