The last thing this world needs is for Netflix to pull its extremely limited theatre releases BS with some huge franchises that have been around since forever.

None of these studio mergers have been great

Why can’t WB just create it’s own parent company like Google did with Alphabet.

NetFlix and Apple want the IPs and would probably love to own the WB studio lot, would probably continue the direction of their movies pretty much the same and not touch what’s working there. Though streaming is interesting since HBO Max is directly competing with NetFlix and Apple – they’ll have to do some weird hybrid thing like is being done with Disney and Hulu.
Either way no one wants Discovery, the cable channels, and all that debt. Discover Channel, HGTV, CNN, TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network, Food Network, Travel Channel, tons more – even if the IPs are valuable on paper they’d be dead already if they weren’t propped up by streaming.
At this point I’m expecting a big streamer picks up the WB/HBO stuff, and Discovery is spun off with the debts and cable channels to picked over in an imminent bankruptcy.

I think this could be the best of the options for the consumer going forward. Netflix gains live sports and HBO prestige TV catalogue for streaming, along with an established film distribution platform. Not to mention some of the more well known franchises in pop culture. It doesn’t have to be beholden to other legacy media companies as it would be if Paramount were to buy it.

How the fuck can Apple pass on this opportunity? I know their corporate policy and I respected it once, but dudes, Apple(+) will NEVER MEAN MOVIES. They can try, and good for them for trying, but not even Netflix has the prestige of the great studios.
If anything, if Netflix ends up buying WB, I hope they rebrand themselves as HBO, The House of Movies.

If Netflix owns more media, then more media will be garbage.

The only thing these C-suite dipshits can ever think to do to „improve their product“ is just buy another one. Then they split out whatever parts of the company that doesn’t suit them.
