    1. I know I’m gonna get downvoted for this.

The Omani empire was really the only Colonial Arab state. There were other IMPERIALIST states but none of them were colonial, with the exception of the Omani Empire. It’s actually a really fascinating piece of history people need to study more.

The Omani empire really only exists the way it did because the Portuguese destroyed Kilwa, leaving a power vacuum for foreign states to exploit.

    2. Japan, Mongols (even tho they were contiguous, the steppe was so vast that one can speak of colonies), austronesians (tho arguable).

If „trade routes and/or influence“ is enough to count as part of the empire, then at the height of the British Empire, most of continental Europe would have been part of that empire, which is plainly nonsense.

Ethiopia also had what probably could be considered a colonial empire fr awhile but especially in the 1890s.
