this feels like a variation of the „coastline problem“. with enough resolution the land gets smaller and smaller. for example most of the gdp in california in very small pockets near the coast. If you kept the gdp boundary as only the buildings a company owns, I wouldn’t be surprised if the land equivalent of „half the world’s gdp“ could fit in an area the size of Los Angeles County.

The Australian selection looks odd – including a bunch of agricultural land and national parks in Victoria but not Sydney?

that’s kind of crazy considering how big the world is. i would’ve expected it be like 1 percent.

Excuse me, there seems to be a mistake. France. We are no longer a power. We have liars who make everyone believe what we haven’t been for a long time. The accounts are rigged because of the European Union.

This is just a combination of „where companies headquarters are located“ and „where people live compactly with high cost of living“. Nothing interesting

Without Singapore?? That country has the highest GDP to area ratio. The green area could be way smaller than it already is

Why stop there, only count to small areas where a transaction is taking place

GDP isn’t a mineral deposit. It isn’t mined from underground in some particular spot and doesn’t correspond to a specific location on the ground.

You could make a huge number of these maps with countries from all over the world and it wouldn’t look much different

China supplies vast quantities of products worldwide. However, a large portion of it is junk and the currency has been intentionally devalued to manipulate their economy. Also, China’s manufacturing is spread out over such a large area that it cannot be reasonably mapped.
If this map had come with sufficient qualifying disclaimers to support it’s scope there wouldn’t have been enough data capacity remaining to display the actual map.

They colored in Indiana and not Illinois? That has to be a mistake.

Choosing the State of Victoria over the city of Toronto is a choice. A bad choice. But still a choice.

Interesting selection. I mean, India not on this selected set. They are number 5 in the [world](https://www.worldometers.info/gdp/gdp-by-country/) curious what was the criteria and sources.
