Apart from Ukraine this is one part of axis of evil:

      USA, Israel, Hungary

The other half of the axis of evil
Russia china iran is missing though

    2. Why does the UN insist on this topic every year if the results will be the same? The United States will never end the embargo, the Cuban diaspora in Florida is a valuable demographic in elections and they will want Cuba to be embargoed until the current regime ends.

    3. DaNASCARMem on

Why does the UN even vote on this? It’s American foreign policy, so it’s up to them whether or not the embargo stays. Even if folks did vote in favor of the resolution, it’s not like they’d force the embargo to end. Surely the organization has better things to do.

The UN is a democracy of mostly authoritarian nations. They love to target the US with this every year despite it being well within the rights of the United States to decide who it trades with.

So, I get Israel (US ally, and the US keeps all the resolutions regarding Palestine down), Ukraine (kinda need to stay on the US‘ good side for guns), Hungary (Orban is a Trump ally), and Argentina (US literally just gave Milei’s government $40 billion).

…what’s up with Paraguay and North Macedonia?

American here. No clue why we are holding this grudge. I get that my grandparents didn’t like communists, but in 2025, still? We deal with China who is still run by the communist party. We deal with tons of countries that have shady governments. Are we just petty that our smaller neighbor isn’t bowing down?

Why are other countries even voting on whether the US ends an embargo? News flash: we DGAF whether they want it ended or not.

    8. PineBNorth85 on

They seriously need to get over it. They trade with regimes far worse than Cubas.

    9. UN doesn’t decide with whom the US trades.

Also, why is Taiwan (Republic of China) marked as “in favor”? They aren’t a part of the UN.

The United States needs to get over its loss from back in 1959 and stop being such sore losers lol. The people of Cuba don’t want what America has to offer, and definitely doesn’t want anything to do with the traitors plotting against them in Miami.

The sad part is neither of the imperialist, corporatists parties in the US will even make an issue out of this when many of them know this shit is just plain wrong.

I gotta say, $40 billion for a meaningless UN vote isn’t a great trade off.

    12. The-Intermediator141 on

Literally WHY would the U.S. end the embargo, what is there to gain?

All it would do is give an authoritarian government that’s 90 miles off the U.S. coast (and works very closely with American enemies) a large flow of foreign currency.

How about Cuba allows democratic elections? Afterwards would be a great time to be having this discussion but not now.

    13. Remember in the 90s when all the neoliberals in the US said that trading with China will liberalize them?

Remember in the 90s when all the neoliberals in Europe said that buying lots of Russian gas will liberalize them?

the only thing that makes any sense is the US government firmly believes Fedel Castro and his family got Kenny shot, IMHO.

    15. Mountain_Fuzzumz on

The funniest part, the UN can vote unanimously, including the US, to end this embargo. But the US delegate in the UN doesn’t make foreign policy or have a say in it.

      The ultimate, gotcha bitches.

    16. Fit-Minimum-5507 on

Cuban Americans want their property and serfs returned, along with the pleasure of portraying themselves as liberators, while selling Cuba to American interests. So basically a return to Cuba before the Revolution.

The US government has been making concessions to countries with un-democratic regimes for decades, China and Saudi Arabia just to name two, but we’ve decided we’re going to act high and mighty only in the Western Hemisphere. We can conduct illegal wars, finance genocides, and support the regimes that made 9/11 possible but Cuba…. That’s a bridge too far :/

    17. DontGetExcitedDude on

This is shameful on the part of the US. Time has come to admit we were wrong and to embrace Cuban people and their government.

    18. Big_Statistician_739 on

Why does the world get a vote on the US embargo on cuba?… its a US embargo… United States being the operative phrase.

Wait the UN has control over US trade policies? That seems weird and has made me dislike them even more

    21. thecasualcaribou on

Everything aside, isn’t that a choice by the US and the US’s deal? Why have other countries have a vote for such?

    22. HotPotatoWithCheese on

Argentina – desperate to stay in US‘ good books because they’re broke as fuck and need financial support

Hungary – just vote in opposition to the rest of the EU

Ukraine – bending over for the US because they need their support in war time

Israel – oh look, it’s these cunts again. I wonder why they could possibly be voting alongside the country that keeps giving them weapons to commit genocide. Truly a mystery.

North Macedonians must have turned up drunk and thought they were voting on something else.
