Billie Eilish wurde gestern Abend (29. Oktober) bei den WSJ Innovator Awards mit dem Music Innovator Award geehrt. In ihrer Dankesrede rief sie die reichsten Menschen der Welt dazu auf, einen Teil ihres Vermögens an Bedürftige zu spenden.
„Wir leben gerade in einer Zeit, in der die Welt wirklich sehr, sehr schlecht und wirklich dunkel ist und die Menschen in unserem Land Empathie und Hilfe brauchen“, sagte Eilish vom Podium aus. „Ich würde sagen, wenn du Geld hast, wäre es toll, es für gute Dinge zu verwenden und es einigen Leuten zu geben, die es brauchen. Ich liebe euch alle, aber es gibt ein paar Leute hier, die viel mehr Geld haben als ich. Wenn ihr ein Milliardär seid, warum seid ihr dann ein Milliardär? Kein Hass, aber verschenkt euer Geld, ihr Kleinen.“
Obwohl sie weder Namen nannte noch mit dem Finger zeigte, waren unter den Milliardären, die an der Veranstaltung teilnahmen, unter anderem der Filmemacher George Lucas, Mark Zuckerberg und seine Frau Priscilla Chan, die auch mit dem Innovator of the Year Award für ihre Arbeit zur Förderung der Wissenschaft zur Heilung und Vorbeugung von Krankheiten geehrt wurde.
Eilish selbst hat 11,5 Millionen US-Dollar aus dem Erlös gespendet, den sie durch ihre jüngste Hit Me Hard and Soft-Tour gesammelt hat. Das Geld geht an das Changemaker-Programm, das wichtige Organisationen, Projekte und Stimmen unterstützt, die sich für Klimagerechtigkeit, die Reduzierung der Kohlenstoffverschmutzung und die Unterstützung wichtiger Umweltarbeit einsetzen.

I do not disagree with her, but 1.1% of a billion is not much and she will probably see some decent tax breaks on the donations.
Honestly the only way we will get the uber wealthy to donate is to make it a tax advantage. People love a tax advantage and we need to make paying taxes more desirable to dodging the taxes. The company I used to work for used the donations and community service loophole, it saved them millions and only cost them a day or company time per year and it makes all the staff feel great. Sure we did some good, but accounting makes out better.
And that was just her unused Adam Sandler wardrobe budget she had been saving since she began her career!
Many billionaires do donate to charities. In fact they are often the ones who donate the most and keep many charities afloat. It can be for empathetic reasons or.. more likely, tax break reasons.
Giving money to charity hardly does anything. Instead of giving money to an org who will use some of that money to fund cost of business or whatever, give it DIRECTLY to people in need
The billionaires are very quiet about SNAP benefits getting cut. And health care premiums going up. They don’t care!
