This is an interesting story worth watching. On paper it’s very surprising that Beijing would grant Carney a meeting, they dole out meetings with Xi very selectively and you wouldn’t normally expect that without a whole lot of preliminary discussions ironing out a substantive announcement of some kind, but we don’t appear to be anywhere close to anything like that.
The NYtimes version of this story makes it clear all of the reporting on this is coming from the Canadian delegation, no comment form China on how they are characterizing this meeting.

We destroyed our relationship with China by supporting the US. The lack of appreciation for that support and all other events of support is readily apparent. Our political leaders since 1959 should be ashamed. China used to revere Canada.

This is really disappointing. I had hoped the divestment from the US would lead to us standing strong on our values. We are whoring ourselves out for money basically. Just full blown worship of the almighty dollar. I wish for once we would put people over profits.

Yes, bend the knee and beg for mercy. Pathetic. Nobody cares what he says. Canada is a joke on the world stage.
Maybe we should be more careful when we speak. Justin and Mark lipping off the worlds most powerful leaders hasn’t gotten us anywhere.
