Huh? Every report on her was about how „refreshing“ she was.

So odd – she’s one of the few actors who’s always seemed to be received as having a genuine, sweet, caring and funny personality. And she’s a solid actor.

I had nothing against her until she claimed to be the first lead female action star. I still don’t care enough to have anything against her, but think she’s probably a moron.

    4. always thought she was a phony. just felt like she tried too hard to be non challan famous actor

    5. legendary_liar on

She refreshing when she spoke her mind initially because she was the “it” girl… and then idiots realized her opinions went against things they wanted her to be so they went against her.

    6. battleofflowers on

She wasn’t really rejected for her personality, but more so that she was EVERYWHERE and people get celebrity fatigue after a while. She did the smart thing and went away for a bit.

    7. There was a time when she was overexposed and her personality really needed to not be so much in everyone’s face all the time.

Peak backlash was that time on an airplane when she stood up, took over the radio, announced she was Jennifer Lawrence, and then tried to lead the airplane in a Super Bowl chant. Nobody on the plane was into it, and the flight attendant took the radio away from her. She thought it was hilarious. That was 2018.

She seems to have learned how to live her life privately without engaging in such attention-grabbing behavior.

Huh? I thought people only started saying she got a bit prickly after she had her first baby.

    9. MysticalNinja187 on

Nah, everyone seemed to like her personality at the time. I’ll say that the leaks (lots to unpack there), picking not so great projects and some overexposure at the time, is what made her pull back

Is this a sub for people who don’t actually like celebrities or what

    11. > net worth is estimated to be around $160 million

From Google AI Overview. If true, I suspect she may get over it.

I didn’t like her for the insensitive comments she made while filming her movie in Hawaii, including knocking down a traditional burial site if I remember correctly. Shes a good actress though

    13. Part of this wasn’t her fault, it was just over-saturation. “Where’s the pizza” gifs were everywhere and she basically lived on the Buzzfeed homepage. People get sick of you no matter how likable you are at a certain point. I will say that my opinion on her soured a bit when she told that story of her itching her butt on some sort of sacred/meaningful rock in Hawaii, causing it to be pushed down a hill. I was put off most by the levity in how she told the story, as if it was just a cute anecdote of clumsy ole JLaw and not a serious accident. It was the sort of mishap that you shouldn’t make light of in public and gave me the impression that she’s too out of touch or selfish to realize it. Great actress though.

No, it’s because in the „me too“ movement her stupid ass backed Weistein and took photos sitting on his lap.

She is a very happy and willing victim that upgraded to perpetrator of harassment so she can wholly go fuck herself.

I started to dislike her after they put her in EVERYTHING even when it was a miscast.

They made her Mystique in the X-Men reboot but she was either never in that form so you could recognize her or she just looked like herself in blue paint (so she would remain recognizable).  It was clear she was hired for the role just for ‘star power’.

Then she was in that one movie opposite Chris Pratt (who was also big at the time) and the ‘chemistry’ felt creepy because it seemed like a large age gap. I never knew the gap at the time, but it felt ‘wrong’ and ruined the movie for me.

I think she disappeared right after that because people kinda collectively had had enough of her.

I thought her personality was a big part of why she was embraced but I suppose I didn’t experience her end of it

    17. I mean I can remember two incidents where she just came off as horrible. Once they were filming something in Hawaii and she was really disrespectful about the Hawaiian culture.

Then the thing about bullying a reporter who didn’t know English and was using his phone to help translate, and she kept ragging on him about being on his phone.

    18. Honestly it was prob all the bunghole pictures of her that got leaked, super messed up, seems like Emma Stone really took the lead for that generation.

Didn’t she also take a step back to be a mom, or was that someone else?

    20. above_average_penis on

she was leaning in and putting on an affectation or however you say it

    21. It was over exposure and a bit of „calm down girl you ain’t that charismatic/funny.“

I think she is a fine actress and i think she will have some memorable roles going forward.

    22. Blackops606 on

Her personality is one of the hottest things about her. Her jokes and funny faces felt so natural and normal vs the cold waves and look aways that other celebs did.

    23. In my memory, the backlash began when she had that situation while filming in Hawaii for catching fire where she was viewed as being disrespectful to their culture. At the time it felt like the reaction to it was kind of forced, but I do also see how someone could see her explanation of the situation as not very sensitive

    24. This was like back in 2016 on Anna Ferris’ podcast and Aubrey Plaza was a guest and they had Chris Pratt on the phone and randomly JL would jump in (I think they were filming passages) and it gave such a desperate vibe and Aubrey was very much low key roasting her. It kinda confirmed to me that maybe (rightfully, given her success) she had drank her own kool aid

her problem was overexposure. Hunger Games was enormous, x-men is a huge franchise, and from 2011 – 2016 she was nominated 4 times for best/supporting actress – she was EVERYWHERE. Her schtick of being ‚relatable‘ and goofy worked against her a bit being that she was in the 1% A-list of Hollywood.

Taking a step back a bit was a great decision.

If you want everyone to like you, you gonna be in a for a hard time. People like Dolly Parton, Keanu Reeves, and Tom Hanks are widely „liked“ but…somewhere, there’s someone who doesn’t like them.

Maybe she doesn’t know how widely she is liked, and it hangs over her like a cloud.

    27. Intelligent-Wash-373 on

I always liked her personality. She seems a bit goofy which is refreshing.

    28. winterandfallbird on

She was so loved and beloved the same time as Chris Pratt. Then they got the classic Reddit flip and everyone suddenly hated their guts. I know for Chris Pratt is disliked for very different reasons, I just remember they had the same timeline for love & hate on here.
