Männer über 50 müssen möglicherweise mehr als doppelt so viel Sport treiben wie Frauen, um die gleichen Vorteile für die Herzgesundheit zu erzielen.

An analysis of activity tracker data found that men in this age group need nearly 9 hours per week of moderate to vigorous activity – like brisk walking or cycling – to gain a 30 per cent drop in coronary heart disease risk, compared with about 4 hours for women. Yeah but they can still produce kids longer than us, so we are even.
Seems like there are a lot of asterisks in this study… but important none the less.
What I am interpreting from this study is that men need to focus more on diet than just exercise alone to stay healthy and heart healthy.
Is this because of testosterone?
I only glanced through it but one thing that seems relevant is they used an accelerometer to gauge exercise time, but the actual amount of acceleration was barely different between sexes.
Men are stronger than women. It would be interesting to me if they could include the amount of muscle as a covariate. Put differently, does the heart have to do quite as much if your legs are much stronger?
Interesting to see, but it’s worth noting this is far from a linear relationship. So, at the 250 min needed for women to get a 30% reduction (in people without heart disease), the men are getting something like a 25% reduction and need a whole lot extra to reduce it not much more.
In populations with CHD, it is 51 min vs 85 min to get the 30% reduction and a huge tail where women can keep reducing it lower and men, not so much (past 40%).

9 hours. Wow. I don’t think a large % of men above 50 reach that many hours a week.
If you ask me this is most likely due to differences in lifestyle and diet between men and women, perhaps even body size
