    1. From reporter Nathalie Baptiste:

Public schools were already sounding the alarm that if the government shutdown drags into next month, districts across the country [may not have the money to feed hungry schoolchildren](https://www.huffpost.com/entry/government-shutdown-funding-school-lunch_n_68f29305e4b0f8088dd6001d) who come from low-income families. And now, even more of them will go hungry next month when more than 41 million people lose access to the country’s most critical food benefit.

But if Republicans suddenly care about food assistance for low-income families, they sure have a funny way of showing it.

    2. >“Millions of American families are about to lose access to food assistance because Democrats are openly admitting to being afraid of their far-left base and refuse to reopen the government,” Rep. Glenn Thompson (R-Pa.), who chairs the House committee that oversees SNAP, told Fox News.

      >“What’s it gonna take for the Democrats to say, ‘Gee, huh, maybe — maybe people should be able to eat,’” Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) told Politico.

Maybe stop lying to the American people and do your job?

    3. This has been part of the republican strategy since as long as I can remember. Cut funds, make things worse, blame the other side while concern trolling to win sympathy votes, repeat. It has been this way since at least the 90s.

    4. Who controls every single branch of government? Republicans and they can’t get things done and then they blame it on the Democrats who constantly try to better the social safety nets. Infuriating.

Remember when they wanted kids in the factories so that they could afford to buy their own school lunch?

Yeah, me too. Don’t let them weasel out of this.

The BBB cut 187 billion from SNAP that takes effect on November 1st. Anybody who paid attention to what Republicans are doing, don’t like them and that’s why they stopped doing town halls.

I hope people are happy. We went from cutting childhood poverty in half a few years to having millions of kids go hungry…… so that mega corporations and billionaires can shave a few percentage points off of there tax bill.

      Its disgusting.

Are Republican voters really just closet socialists and are now acknowledging that they like socialist programs?

Republicans have absolutely no position on anything. They have goals. They change position at any moment to further the goals.

    10. So far the Democrats are calling the GOP bluff. Which is good because the GOP can end this at anytime, they won’t because they need the Democrats to at least stop filibustering so that they can shirk blame onto the Democrats when all of the benefits are cut. So long as the Democrats hold out it’s very hard for them to take the blame for what’s about to happen.

It just sucks that the only way forward in this particular instance is for a lot of people to get hurt.

    11. I wish democrats had rallied against the industrial for profit prison systems… look at the US rate of incarceration for women just look at it!

    12. Food stamps will be replaced with billionaire loans to support the peasants. They will only allocate a certain amount meaning many will starve and die. Welcome to the Technocracy.

    13. And to think just a few days ago I saw my parents watching a video where some bald guy reacts to others reacting to losing SNAP benefits

    14. It’s not that they’re always against issues that Democrats are for… they’re just against Democrats.

    15. And just wait if some are on the ballot for next year’s primaries the back tracking will be a glories. But never forget them or the Dems that stood or backed them up on votes. Drain the swamp!!!!

Unfortunately the pain hasn’t hit yet.

This is the first of many hits middle class and poor Americans are going to sustain.

They routinely don’t care until they’re directly impacted, and something like 40% of food stamp recipients are Republicans who are likely just getting notified about not receiving support next month.
