    1. They won’t say it because it wasn’t a mistake. Using the ad to stop negotiations is just a pretext. There are no serious paths forward because the Americans view this issue with a “winner takes all” mindset.

As soon as he tried to claim it was fraudulent and „AI“, no reasonable person is going to look at the situation and say it’s Ford’s fault Trump reacted this way.

    3. Using public funds to play advertisements on national television in a foreign country to influence their voters against their government is pretty fucked up.

If the shoe was on the other foot and the USA was doing this in Canada everybody would be up in arms.

It was a bad decision but to publicly admit it was a mistake would be an even worse one that would just make us look weak.

Trump is a very sensitive person and Carney was handling this entire trade negotiation situation very well by flying under the radar. What Ford did was akin to what Trudeau did when he made fun of Trump in front of the world leaders and got caught on international media doing it. Trump is still mad about that.

I think that this was possibly coordinated with the feds. The whole response has been coordinated amongst the provinces and federal government. So I would not be surprised if this was a good cop/bad cop routine that Carney and Ford thought up.
