The Municipality of Santiago has 400,000hab, metropolitan area has 6.8 million.

Do metro population. Otherwise, all this does is suggests where governments drew largely-arbitrary lines on a map.

Caracas has about 3 million residents and not I’m not talking the metro area the city per se

Here come the fools who whine about “metro area.” Nobody considers Scarsdale, North Jersey, SW CT or Long Island to be part of New York City. This map is correct and it’s not our fault that sorry ass cities like St Louis or Hartford have hollowed out urban cores surrounded by suburban blandness.

I like how every big country has at least one entry on this map. The biggest country (by land mass) not represented appears to be Bolivia. Colombia and Ecuador are punching above their weight.

And it’s hard to believe both South America and North America combined have still 400 million less people than China or India

    7. City limit standards are so inconsistent between countries. I’d use Metro populations, otherwise these aren’t actually comparable.

Also, not to discredit this but, considering America’s „sprawl“ lifestyle

NYC is really closer to 20 million when you consider how many people can reasonably commute to NYC

The amount of human development and infrastructure in that region is the ninth wonder of the world, absolutely insane when you get down to it. There’s nothing like NYC

    9. City populations are dumb. The physical size of a city and it’s borders are completely arbitrary. Use metro area.

Why does São Paulo and Brasília have their respective punctuation marks but Bogotá, Medellín, etc don’t???

    11. These are not metro area populations and therefore are garbage. City limit means nothing for determining true size of urban areas/cities

Idk why but I always thought the biggest city in Brazil would be in the north.

I was under the impression Toronto was much bigger than Chicago, but after looking it up I was way wrong wow

    16. Striking-Magazine473 on

Santiago is over 9000 km2. That’s a massive area. Toronto’s city proper with 2.7 million is 680 km2 for reference. This map is useless
