Hopefully it hints at reversing the GST cuts which put us into structural deficits and was based on the assumption the oil sands where gonna take off at $100/b oil.
GST cut reversal to stop running the baby bonus, health care today, and OAS on a credit card is good policy. Not to mention Harper sent our defence spending to the lowest in our modern history 0.9% of GDP in order to balance the budget post GST cuts. We evidently can’t have a military post Harper GST cuts let alone anything else we want to do.
That is also a „sacrifice“
And, the NDP basically is in no position to do jack all about it. Even if they refuse to support it and the BQ also votes against it, they are going to force an election while leaderless, bankrupt, and likely to lose most of the seats they didn’t already lose. The LPC would likely welcome an election at this point, especially one they can pin on the NDP for being foolish enough to force, because the likely outcome would be a majority with the NDP being (further) wiped off the map.
NDP absolutely can not force an election and everyone full well knows it, so all they can do is act like a dog howling at the moon because there’s no reason for the Liberals to give in to any of their demands.
We’re broke, thanks in large part to the NDP, so whatever pain Canadians experience from this budget comes thanks to them.
