    1. almost all new cars are electric, but it makes sense some groups are still unsure. Change like that can take time to feel comfortable with.

There’s very good reason to be skeptical of them. It’s a massive purchase. A vehicle is typically the second largest purchase any person will ever make. If a person is not skeptical about them they’re not a very intelligent person. People shouldn’t be blindly accepting anything. The future is obviously electric. But buying an electric now is still a luxury for most people. Even if they weren’t more expensive than ice vehicles, they’re still inferior in many ways with the current technology and infrastructure. Ultimately EV is the future as the tech, infrastructure and price get better people everywhere will be less skeptical.

    3. Electric vehicles are still not great relatively for the winter cold and many places outside of the larger cities have subpar charging infrastructure outside of private homes

Plenty of smaller electric vehicles also have smaller tyres then their non electric counterparts which again is not great for winter

This is part of why people are sceptical, just saying (those poorly educated) are sceptical is convenient, when those with the highest levels of education are all driving large SUVs and own large houses and never have to worry about extended travel to and from work, or on vacation where they just go to the mediteranean

It makes sense why new car sales in norway are in a majority electric due to government incentives that are soon to be removed, and the ban on the sale of new ICE vehicles after 2025, unless the government changed their mind (again)

    4. Isn’t in Norway the deal that government will pay for your road-taxes? I can imagine that this group look at that ‚deal‘ with a side-eye, that it may disappear at any time. Also, you kind of pay it upfront now.

    5. „Still, many remain skeptical of electric cars, particularly women, people over 45, and those with lower levels of education.“

Granted the circles of the venn diagrams overlap, but seems like those would still represent a pretty large portion of the population. That plus 94% of new cars being EV would seem to indicate that:

      1. they are skeptical and buy EVs anyways
      2. they are buying a lot of used ICEs
      3. „many“, is likely wildly overstating it

[edit] I know this is Reddit, so it is a faux pas, but I opened the link. Pretty much as expected, they give no actual numbers to get a sense of what „many“ means to them.

    6. My wife is over 45, left school early and is a women. She likes our e-car and charges it happily but I have to pay all the bills so I guess the jokes on me.

      **Shots fired!**

    8. The government has massively subsidized EVs to produce this outcome. No import taxes, no tolls, no ferry fees, free parking, high fees on ice vehicles. It’s produce a good outcome in many ways, but it also makes sense that adoption has outpaced people actually being convinced.

    9. It is predicted to go a little down, since cars that are cost less then 500k had less fees then those over that value. But the norwegian goverment is moving this upper limit down to 300k. So not only „rich peoples car anymore“ get extra taxes but ordinary people who can afford 300k will also pay more taxes for their EV’s. Anyone can divide the numbers by 10 to get aproximite dollar numbers.

Bonus if you want to know what a gasoline car will cost in norway, you can take the „new“ price of a standard car and add 50-80% value to that to get the norwegian price. Taxes included. But since the car dealers have no „0“ combustion engine cars you can’t.
