Two top House Democrats sent a letter to President Donald Trump warning him that his effort to order the Department of Justice to pay him $230 million in taxpayer funds as compensation for its investigations into him during the Biden administration is both unconstitutional and illegal.

Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, and Robert Garcia (D-Calif.), the top Democrat on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, notes the Constitution’s Domestic Emoluments Clause and the Federal Tort Claims Act.
The letter goes on to demand the White House hand over a litany of information about Trump’s “ongoing conspiracy” to raid the U.S. Treasury for his own benefit.

I wouldn’t be shocked if Trump demands more restitution over this. He’s a thief.
What about investigations into market manipulation and conflict of interest? How come the guy that can announce trade wars nilly-willy has sons working in investment companies? These people should be in jail, not in the White House.

I think that train has already left the station. Trump wouldn’t have gone public if the machinery wasn’t already in place to make it happen. That’s how he’s been working and getting away with things since January.

Trump is taking money directly from the US Treasury for his own personal gain. That level of corruption is absolutely staggering.
In a functioning democracy, there would be unanimous support from Congress for immediate impeachment and removal.

I recommend questioning John Roberts first, since his rulings basically allowed the executive branch to run in such a way that Trump can do this.
That judge is, historically, going to be remembered as one of the primary causes of the worst failure of democracy in American history. That’s his legacy. One of history’s villains.

They need to impeach him. If the republicans vote to acquit the president for using his office to enrich himself, it will just make them look bad in front of Americans who are struggling to afford everyday expenses. Democrats can then hammer them leading up the midterms.

Assuming he doesn’t just have ICE launch missiles into US cities and then declare a State of Emergency, rig the election by having ICE lurk at polling stations and ballot boxes, have the FBI raid voting outreach groups, rig the elections in more subtle ways….
Dems HAVE to win and in a blue wave too. No half measures. They have to take a super majority so they can nullify SCOTUS rulings, impeach SCOTUS, dismantle ICE, impeach and convict him and every crony that lines up to take his spot, and so much more work to be done.

I assume that part of the money would go to Trumps lawyers, for his legal fees. That would include Todd Blanche, who apparently is the person to approve this and send it to Trump for final approval.
The people deciding if and how much we should pay, are the people the money is going to.
