      The German government on Wednesday said it will initiate an unscheduled expenditure to cover the salaries of around 11,000 local employees working at US bases in Germany who have been affected by the US government shutdown. Not paying people violates German labor laws. The unions were involved in this.

      They expect the US government to reimburse the state once the shutdown’s over.

      Taco is not going to reimburse the financial loss, so the taxes will get higher in Germany. 

      Some way our another the German government will get there money back. And they are know to do that on the backs of the tax papers.

      It’s pathetic for Trump if the US can’t pay its people. What a loser… The move is good, even if I don’t understand why or what the consequences are, because the whole thing is very complex. I don’t know the legal basis either, but can it only be social assistance? OR? So, Germany not „would/plan to pay“, but must pay??

      Remember trump? if NATO does not pay, no protection. In this case we can offer the people a nice loan of 20% tax. Payable in 4 weeks.

      They have German work contracts that do not allow stop of payment during government shutdown. In the past, US was paying even during shutdown. At least in Rheinland-Palatinate, payments to the individuals are done by the German state (ADD to be precise) and they get the money in one big payment from the US

      I know this type of gouvernment payment usually from cases where a company goes bankrupt and can’t pay their employees anymore. Just saying…

      (I know about the shutdown etc.)

      The headline may seem ridiculous at first, but these people would just quit their jobs otherwise and then end up on government welfare programs. So either way, the German government would foot the bill. That being said, this is not a nice thing to do to a country that hosts your military bases.

      Oh, so the State is perfectly fine cutting into their own Citizen’s welfare system. But then covers the wages for a deadbeat employer? Fuck this.

      I understand it sucks for people employed by the U.S. , does not make it right. Every other asshole Organisation not paying wages does not get the Government to cover it for them.

      Both the U.S. and the Government can piss off, this is infuriating.
