    1. It is fascinating how autocrats have changed over the course of history – after centuries of creating and building magnificent edifices that are reference points in architecture and art history to this day, the autocrats of recent history can only think in terms of creating desolation or tacky tasteless horrors. They are only able to think in grey concrete wastelands and Liberace-vomit gold-ornamented kitsch that has to alter or even remove previous greatness – they can only put their „mark“ on history with such abominations. This horror is no exception and shows how soulless monsters they all are.

He’s already figuratively destroyed it so might as well go for literally, too.

    3. What a disgrace. On top of it, he says he is going to donate the $230 million to complete the monstrosity. But guess what? He just so happend to wants the DOJ to give him, for what nobody knows, wait for it: $230 million. All while federal employees aren’t getting paid.

Democrats are furious, republicans are at most Susan Collins level concerned

„Saddam Hussein, he was a bad guy but he knew how to build a palace, so anyway we’re finding that other parts of the WH are in terrible shape, you wouldn’t believe how badly it deteriorated in the past four years folks under Sleepy Biden’s watch. It’s true, believe me, it’s a mess so we’re going to be renovating other parts of the WH, it’ll be beautiful unlike anything people have ever seen, we’re also looking into renaming it, maybe in two weeks, we’ll see what happens“ -47

No one demolished a building like this for an addon.  He is purposely just having someone with a bulldozer break as much as possible.  He should be impeached for destruction of US property.

Normal deconstruction would be with scaffolding.
      This is idiocracy.

    7. Just so I’m clear…

We’re 3 weeks into a government shutdown, so there are people who HAVE to work without getting paid for a month, and others forced to stay out of work for a month without pay.

Food prices are skyrocketing, and farmers — including many who voted for him — are losing their livelihoods because of HIS economic policies.

But the orange Marie Antionette thinks this is a good time to DEMOLISH part of a historic structure so he can build a multi-million dollar ballroom that THE COUNTRY DOES NOT NEED!

Do we have to protest at the gates of the White House with pitchforks and torches for Marie Antionette to get the message that the country is kind of going through a rough patch right now, so maybe this isn’t the best time to focus on a new ballroom?

I feel offended seeing these images. They are also illustrative of what his admin has done to this country since coming into the office.

    9. Can you imagine the outrage from the right if Obama had cut down a tree in the back yard?

The long game here is that, all the people who care will be dead in 20-30 years and, for the people who remain, this will just be the new normal.

So, I mean to say resist the fuck outta this. Call the construction crew HQ and annihilate their phone lines. Their info is out there.

I’m betting Trump never finishes the Ballroom, leaves a huge mess for the next president and pockets the money that was supposed to go to it.

    12. Everybody’s assuming that Trump will pay for this, when it’s proven that contractors have been stiffed by Trump in all his construction jobs before. He just doesn’t pay and they run out of money trying to sue for compensation. The surprise is he can still get contractors

He said, I will give it ALL to charity, he also said, he would not touch any of the white house for his unneeded patio/ballroom. He has lied most every time. Why would I even consider believing him on this statement.

Trump is the single worst president in our history. It’s a travesty that we’re here now. Fuck MAGA and fuck Trump!

    15. He could tear down the whole White House and everyone would just let him. I’m so sick of this.

Do I appreciate old, preserved architecture, especially with historical significance? Yup!

Do I also appreciate that sometimes renovations are necessary, and older buildings can be upgraded? Absolutely.

The problem here is that Donald Trump is a raging narcissist with gaudy, gauche, tacky af taste in decor and he is destroying a historic portion of a historic building to build a vanity project to himself all while the federal government is shut down and his congress is trying to destroy peoples‘ healthcare and gut so many federal programs while also ignoring US farmers suffering from his ill-advised tariff wars and also bailing out Argentina.

The entire thing is tone-deaf and self-centered vanity which will result in a gross and ostentatious ballroom which is a large room with a function that is *inherently outdated* in modern society.
