Maybe, but I’m also reading that EU countries couldn’t guarantee that Trump essentially could act as his bodyguard and permit him safe passage in and out of Hungary.

Ukraine won’t accept any cease fire or peace deal that involves giving up occupied territory, so any summit is pointless anyway.
Just how many trump and Putin “summits” are necessary? They just had one a few months ago, in Alaska. Nothing has changed, Putin wants the complete capitulation of Ukraine, which is never going to fucking happen. Putin will not only send millions of his own Russian citizens, to their death, he’s now killing Cubans, Africans, North Koreans, etc. Of all people, Putin does not deserve all of the pomp and circumstance of a summit, he’s a fucking criminal and should be thrown in jail or worse.
This is…good? I guess? As in they are recognizing that Putin is full of shit? It’s a low bar but at this point I’ll take it.
Putin and Trump are both aware Pokrovsk is about to fall and become Russian. So don’t rush any peace summit, let’s grab some more of Ukraine, now that Russia’s on a roll. That’s basically what’s happening, while Europe enjoys the show eating popcorn.

Putin is just trying to out-attrit Ukraine at this point. It’s how the Russians beat Germany.
The Republicans have been working to save Russia’s war since they blockaded aid starting in 2023.
The only logical reason to stop the flow of arms to Ukraine is to save Russia’s army, help more Ukrainians die, and shift the war in Putin’s favour.
Russia would probably be negotiating now if they faced continued Democratic levels of aid. Imagine the difference if Ukraine had tens of thousands of extra troops right now and a large armoured force replenished by the US deliveries that republicans intentionally stopped.
