I am not very clued into these inquiries, but having read through it earlier, it seems that Boris is getting grilled on why he closed schools and then separately also getting grilled as to why he didn’t do more to prevent the spread in kids?
Seems like getting it from both sides a bit.
Everyone paid a high price to, mostly, save old people who have simply turned round and gutted the economy by stealing whatever was left from their last raid.
That’s as close to an admission or apology that anyone’s ever going to receive from the incompetent philanderer

Yeah, my daughter was the perfect age to miss most of nursery and half of reception year due to the lockdowns. It has a massive effect, and while she’s a good kid and smart I can still see the ghost of the drag back effect it had on her when she was young. You simply don’t get that time back.

With the benefit of hindsight it seems probable that we did not need to close the schools for as long as we did. I’m minded to be sympathetic to the government for being cautious on this, especially in the spring of 2020. I suspect beyond that, we probably knew enough to have made better choices.
Everyone keeps going on about how we sacrificed a lot to protect the elderly. Meanwhile Long Covid has overtaken asthma to become the number one chronic illness in children, and it keeps on giving.

Let’s not forget all the kids who got injured by adults who prioritised „going back to normal“ over their safety by not fighting for proper air filtration in schools and by prioritising attendance records over health to this day. And the kids who have to live with the fact that they brought a deadly virus home to their vulnerable relatives. If you think lockdown was the most traumatising thing that could happen to a child…

I personally never had a massive issue with lockdown outside of the fact „key workers“ had the piss taken out of them and it highlighted just how broken the NHS has been with its consistent underfunding and nothing has been done since to sort it out.
I work in construction and we worked pretty much the entire thing whilst everyone else chilled at home. I won’t lie and say I’m not jealous as I have so many physical niggles that would go away if I had paid time off to rest them. I exclude myself and industry from key workers, those were nurses and supermarket staff.
This entire thing also allowed the nation to see genuine corruption occuring in real time and yet the revolution still hasn’t taken place.
Never forget thst starmer/labour always supported harsher and longer lockdowns, including school closures.
Can someone explain why there is an enquiry and what it hopes to achieve?

It was lose-lose for a prime minister, what do you even do? You’re condemning old people to death or you’re hurting young one’s social progress or X or Y or Z.

Nobody can complain about excessive lockdowns when all the polls show its what the majority of people wanted and I have no doubt there would be an incredible amount of bitching if he did anything less than go as far as he did.
That being said I dont think he really believed in it and its weak leadership to govern like that.

I think the focus on the first lockdown is off. We didn’t really know what this disease was capable of at that time, but making the subsequent lockdowns include full school closures was a huge mistake as it was known by then that the risk to most children was minimal and their education was disrupted simply to protect older people who could have isolated further if needed.
My daughter’s education was severely disrupted at a critical time and it has taken a lot of time and effort for us to get her back on track. A good portion of that time was in what I consider unnecessary school closures after the first lockdown. The fact that the government was given a clear report showing how significant the disruption was and what the cost was to fix and just did not fund it to any meaningful degree is a utter disgrace, really a national scandal, that is still impacting young people now.
Everyone paid huge prices (apart from partying MPs), and those prices still haven’t come down, either literally or figuratively.
There’s thousands of kids with Long Covid in the UK, no? Could have been way more if we didn’t have restrictions in place.
