How much longer can we stay on this path? If we game this out, within a generation, this is most definitely going to end with the majority demanding the abolition s. 35 of the Constitution Act.

As a British Columbian, born and raised, I just don’t know how it’s going to be possible to guilt-trip a multi-racial, multi-ethnic, multi-religious, multi-cultural British Columbia to prescribe to this system of apartheid if it poses even the slightest threat to their property and personal prosperity. People are not going to tolerate it.

The only reason why the public has supported reconciliation thus far, is because they thought it impacted distant corners of this vast province that they’d probably never visit. People thought their private property would be safe. They thought public lands would remain shared. Start laying claim to people’s property located in the midst of urban centres, or start granting access to public lands on the basis of race, and the support for reconciliation will evaporate over night. I’d say it’s already evaporating thanks to this court case and issues such as Joffre Lakes Park.

First Nations and the Government should be sprinting to enter into agreements quickly, before a not so distant future generation who bears no guilt for the past, gets fed up, votes accordingly, and puts an end to the reconciliation industry once and for all by way of constitutional amendment.

Mark my words, save this comment, if we stay on this path, some politician will come along and ride a populist wave to power with the sole promise of abolishing s. 35 of the Constitution Act. It will happen.
