A collapse implies they had morals to begin with. Not one conservative can tell me how Republicans forcing raped children to give birth for pedophiles protects the children they attacked. They just cry about how the pedophile semen deserves to be incubated in your child.
The problem is this assume MAGA had any morals to begin with. They don’t.
They only care about Trump winning. They will make themselves suffer for this to happen. MAGA don’t have a foundation to stand on, they only worship Trump.

The collapse goes beyond morals. It’s an entire false reality where truth, science, facts, law, critical and rational thought don’t matter. It’s an intentional destruction of reality and society. Can’t imagine how a party that would want to destroy America and the fabric of society would be governing any other way than what we’re seeing now.

I’m predicting the collapse of this regime will be the biggest fail and humiliation in US history and it’s going to happen soon. The US is resilient but the government is not, and they are breaking it, it will spin out of control and there are zero competent adults to control the systems that they have broken. And this is why deriving moral direction based primarily on group membership is the worst source of morality possible.
When those in leadership cross lines the group then bends over backwards to make that behavior acceptable.

They *started out* being this toxic, awful and flat out comically incorrect on day 1.

I was a high school teacher for over a decade, and it wasn’t until the year Trump was first elected that I had an openly white supremacist student. The comfort with which he shared his views was shocking, but it was certainly a symptom of the collapse of common respect and dignity at the highest levels of society.
The neoliberals are finally getting it. For a lot of people in this world greed and fear, fear of death especially, are the main comforts that keep the truth of our truly precarious existence at bay. They have embraced nihilism and fatalism and a dark hedonism. To feel in control, they must control others. To prevent themselves from being harmed, they must harm others. We are meat channeling electrical signals, and even if we do everything right, life can end with no rhyme or reason. If we accept that we aren’t safe, then the only way to keep ourselves safe is to make others unsafe. Make ourselves the instruments of danger and that danger won’t eat us.
MAGA is just the modern American manifestation of this philosophical and ideological fear. Conservatism by and large is fear of the big lie falling apart and humanity being forced to reckon with the seeming purposeless of existence. Hierarchies must be justified, else the suffering under them becomes unconscionable.

There was no collapse. The entirety of this movement was fueled by hate toward a black man who became president.
Decades of economic inequality could be pointed to as a reason, but MAGA tend to want more of that because they are fucked-up masochists who worship billionaires. So … yeah, hate of anyone not like them.
It really is amazing how many Americans completely lost their minds and abandoned any sense of morality or principles because a black man became president.
