    1. The numbers are pretty phenomenal, but I keep seeing authoritarian and related words in quotes.

It is. It’s not a question.

Why so spineless with the scare quotes?

      Afraid of the authoritarian overreaction?

100k+ in Chicago, baby!  Peaceful, fun, high energy, family friendly! We took the kids!

What the fuck is that headline. „Pass in festival atmosphere“? What the hell is this reporting

seven million is a good start, but essentially, it’s a tenth of the number of people who voted for the asshole… america you have a lot of work to do yet to save your democracy.

    6. Yes, or just authoritarianism. Without the quotes. Since, you know, facts and all.

    7. Why is it so impossible for journalists to write accurate headlines these days? You’re one of our first lines of defense in a democracy, ffs!

    8. I visited their website just now and I want you all to know that they have my ‘support’

    9. I love seeing this, I was at my cities protest and it was incredibly great to see!
      But we need more.
More protests, more fighting, don’t let up.
Continue the good fight you champions.
This isn’t over until everyone behind this administration is behind bars

    10. The only thing Trump isn’t a failure at is getting people to protest him. All three of the largest protests in American history were against him. All three.

    11. Can’t wait to hear it described as a few dozen paid antics members and a failure by KKKaroline

It is important to note that 7 million people registered.

      Many more likely attended

Why does the title say ‘authoritarianism’ and not just authoritarianism?

The first implies that it’s not really what it is the second is the truth.

Make magatry illegal let’s make this country better. We need maga entirely out of our communities

    15. The right-wing stole my karma because I stood up against their heartless propaganda.

    16. That’s a pretty big number. Are there any Trump voters going to these that realize their mistakes or is this the opposition just getting louder?

Now this is a much better example of U S. Citizens protesting :

Black Lives Matter (2020): Following the killing of George Floyd, a series of protests drew an estimated 15 to 26 million participants, making it one of the largest protest movements in U.S. history.

The sad thing is our country is being taken over by a dictator and we can’t even reach these numbers.

Im proud of you all. If we can topple this regime with nothing but abject kindness and decency, imagine how favorably history will remember this moment.

Even with millions peacefully protesting in thousands of locations around the country, the Trump administration is still begrudgingly awaiting its Antifa revolution. Republicans are frustrated with these outcomes because they’re not getting the destructive rise they want out of these protestors.

Trump and his allies want an escalation, they want a „war zone,“ they want hostile resistance and mayhem so that they can capture these moments and continue to „flood the zone“ with their disinformation and alarmist propaganda; convincing their voters of some radical left rebellion taking place in cities around the country.

They want to provoke an incident so they can justify further military incursions, so their fearmongering narratives hold up, so their state sanctioned media can falsely depict these cities as „hellholes.“

They want so desperately to be able to rationalize why their inherently authoritarian measures are warranted.

But the reality is, *they* are the „invaders,“ *they* are the provocateurs.

Unfortunately, this lack of a revolution won’t stop the MAGA coalition from labeling their political opponents and critics—even protestors—as „domestic terrorists.“ The Trump administration has given itself the unilateral authority to dictate who meets the official criteria of an „America hating,“ radical Antifa extremist. They’re deliberately using this type of inflammatory language very loosely and vaguely to demonize anyone who protests against Trump and his policies in public.

Trump is federalizing troops and threatening to invoke the insurrection act so he can authorize the military to enforce his will and carry out the law however the regime sees fit.

But for Trump and his followers, „law and order“ simply means punishing your enemies.

This isn’t about reducing crime, nor is it about driving back some imaginary rebellion. It’s about inflicting pain and righteous vengeance on the opposition. It’s about MAGA punishing its make-believe enemies. It’s about suppressing civil liberties and cracking down on protestors and dissenting voices.

And it should go without saying that these excessive measures do absolutely nothing to address the underlying, root causes to crime, gun violence, and domestic extremism.

With the deployment of these federalized troops, and with Trump’s deputizing of trigger happy ICE agents and local law enforcement, Republicans are hoping to provoke an incident from any one person or group out of millions who are protesting this administration’s descent into authoritarianism.

They are creating the conditions for chaos and eagerly anticipating a moment of violent rebellion in response so they can seize the opportunity to paint all protestors as destructive and riotous, and characterize US cities as breeding grounds for „Antifa terrorism.“

That way they can retroactively justify their efforts to centralize authoritarian control over the country and provide a much needed rationalization for the logical next step in their plan—to declare martial law.

But if or when they do, they’ll only be demonstrating that *they* are the monsters, because millions of protestors lawfully taking to the streets to oppose this dictatorial government; dancing; singing; bike riding and marching in defense of their rights is not the „rebellion“ they were hoping for.

    20. Low_Ruin_4021 on

I appreciate everyone who participated & marched today and for No Kings organizers, I’m elderly, I don’t think I could have held up, but I feel you’re protesting speaks for everyone not able to attend.

    21. No no no. Ok, if 10k protesters came out to 817 cities with more than 100k pop, thats 8 million people. Then also EVERY OTHER CITY in america under 100k. In the metro atl area that’s NOT atlanta, there’s smyrna, Woodstock, austell, kennesaw, and a ton of other places that saw hundreds of people today. This number is extremely low and I don’t believe it for a second.

    22. When the protest turns to revolution and I can look at my kids and feel safe for their future I’ll be impressed. You don’t protest or vote out dictatorship.

    23. hhhhunterrrr on

We’re getting close to that magic 3.5% number.

„The „3.5% rule“ is a political science concept suggesting that no government can withstand a challenge from a nonviolent movement that actively mobilizes at least 3.5% of the population. This figure is a descriptive observation from historical data, not a predictive law, and has been cited as a motivational benchmark for activists.“

Protest posts on my local Reddit keep getting deleted. Keep sharing those stories and photos. Tri-Cities WA turn out was huge!

    26. Interesting fact: There were only 4 million Americans when the Constitution was signed.

    27. Coldsmoke888 on

More than 7 million PEACEFUL protests against the authoritarian government.

      Fuck yeah.

No antifa bullshit. No riots. No fuel for the liars at the top to spin in their billionaire class grift. Fuck yeah.

    28. letsgorangers12345 on

I think a big story is that people from other countries are joining this. There are protests all around the world against Donald J. Trump.

    29. There isn’t going to be an accurate count for a while, and the right is trying to minimize this, so I suspect 7 mil is quite low

    30. Pride_and_PudgyCats on

7 million is an incredible number and a great start.

America has over 300 million people. Triple those numbers!
