      Living in CA, I didn’t realize some states had so few military personnel. It’s an interesting map.

      this is only active duty federal members. does not include national guard or veterans. Hence some places like virginia are overrepresented. (not that theey don’t also have a lot of reservist and national guard and agr or veterans living there)

      Historically when Kings, Emperors, Dictators, Chairmen, etc. fear a popular uprising, they call up troops from more rural conservative regions, and station them in these rebellious regions reasoning that out of state/providence/region soldiers will be more willing to take violent action against a civilian population they identify with less.

      Tiananmen Square is a good example

      How does Iowa only have 193, seems like we have more than a few military bases here and there in major cities.
