I think it’s absolutely criminal that we’re not continuing to exploit this resource. We’ll still need oil and gas for some decades and it’s better if it’s done within our own ’shores‘ as it were where safety and environmental standards are higher, providing skilled jobs and resilience to our supply chains.

Sounds like a lot, but is actually only about 2 years worth for the UK

For the sake of global warming we should ignore it and continue to import it from other countries.

Time to set up that sovereign wealth fund that they should have done in the eighties instead of thatcher selling it all off to buy tax cuts for her rich cronies.
Like what Norway did that’s now worth trillions.

So we will set up a sovereign wealth fund this time to benefit the entire country right… right

    6. Insert Claudia from Dark chicaning down a rope in high heels to discover a lot of hidden barrels

Let me guess it’s completely uneconomical to extract and all of the comments in here about a sovereign wealth fund or using that oil are complete pie in the sky shite

    8. Prospective resources in mapped leads and prospects: 4.6 billion boe, up 31 percent from 3.5 billion boe at end 2023.

That 1.1 billion increase reflects updated mapping and licensing, not new discoveries.

How much is that compared to global supply. Like how long would it last if it was being tapped today?

    10. The oil positive bots are out in force on these articles aren’t they.

Leave it where it is, the planet warmed 0.5c in the last 5 years, the previous 0.5c took 30 years, we’re already well on the way to 2c within 2 decades and that’s a number we are going to really struggle to comeback from so why make that job harder for the majority of this comment section.

    11. Hate to be that kind of nat, but didn’t they say it was running out back in ’14? 🫩

We should leave it untill we need it. Granted it isn’t that much anyway, but in 50 years i bet it would be worth alot more.

Save it for when we need it during the next war with Russia or the US.

Why do i feel like this will exclusively be a bad thing and cost brits money rather than improve anything?

I read a news report implying that OPEC+ are trying to kill the shale oil industry in the US by lowering the price of oil. Isn’t that one of the real limitations here?

Shame we will never be able to exploit it because we are hell bent on this net zero mission
