Warum hassen manche Leute Daphne? Wirklich neugierig!
2. Many people (mainly but not only Labour Party supporters) hate Daphne because of a mix of 3 reasons:
* She hated the Labour Party with a passion
* She was a Nationalist Party supporter (though she did dislike and conflict with some within it)
* She was classist and did look down upon people who weren’t educated like
* She exposed corruption by the Labour Party and even her killing led to Labour’s golden boy Joseph Muscat resigning as Prime Minister
3. That memorial is the [Great Siege Memorial](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Siege_Monument) commemorating the victory the [Knights of Malta had over the Ottoman Turks in 1565](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Siege_of_Malta). In truth people rarely cared about the monument before people started placing photos of Daphne there. You never saw anyone going to pay respects to the monument or even think about it. Hell many people didn’t even know it was for the Great Siege!
4. The memorial is opposite the Courts building, which is why protesters put her photo there in the fist place. It’s a reminder that 8 years later we still don’t know the full picture of her assassination. We still don’t know the true reason, and how connected some PL figures were with her assassination – whether knowingly or unknowingly.

Daphne Caruana Galizia despised a lot of people, e.g. I remember when Dom Mintoff died, she wrote ‚may his soul rot in hell‘. She was no saint herself, hate her or love her, and obviously she was not a uniting figure as she divided Malta. I think we can agree on this, whatever your political persuasion. Does this condone what happened to her? No, definitely not and I hope all the accomplices, principals or anyone involved get life sentences. I personally agreed with much of her investigative journalism. However, this is not true for everyone and they have a right to that opinion. It is also true that monument is for the Great Siege of Malta, one of the few non-politically charged holidays we have in Malta and definitely not for Daphne Caruana Galizia. The Constitutional Courts had decided that the removal of those protest items placed on that monument in an ongoing protest by the State was unconstitutional. However, it said nothing on whether another private citizen can remove them on the basis of their freedom of expression. Personally I think this state of play is all the fault of the Constitutional Courts, as now we have this farcical situation of private citizens / groups setting up makeshift monuments without State involvement under the guise of a never ending protest. This will lead to chaos. We already have a problem in this country with cenotaphs everywhere with roads due to past accidents, making our roads look like cemetaries. This is the last thing we need in my view.

A national monument is not the ideal place to commemorate DCG. If people want to do her own monument, they are free to petition to do so and fund it whilst we’re there.

Its political and it is seen as a tribute for a corrupt government, a reminder.
While I despise the act and justice should be served for all the people involved including government figures, what I dont like is that its placed under the monument of the great siege. Flowers should be placed there to remember about the thousands of people who died for our freedom and not for a journalist. There is a place for everything.

Real talk, I do not care who she was or what she did. I’m sure she’s done good as much as she’s done bad. She was a human, just like we all are, she did not deserve to die. However, there are so many people that died in such horrible ways, and you don’t see anyone putting their memorial on monuments. Yes, we see cenotaphs everywhere, but that is specifically dedicated to the person, at the place of death. The great siege monument has nothing to do with anyone, and it should have stayed that way. You want there to be a memorial for Daphne? Sure, by all means, just not on something that is dedicated to something else.

You know whats equally as sick – OPM’s defence of his actions as “freedom of expression”.

Because people are so brainwashed by the current government, that they would rather forget that they blew up a journalist who was uncovering corruption (please note, corruption from BOTH sides not just labour).
People were gleeful when she died. My colleagues could barely contain their schadenfreude.
I didn’t like her as a person. She was a snob of the highest proportions, homophobic, elitist. But she was also an incredible investigative journalist who uncovered so much. Unfortunately in Malta we care more about an expired drivers licence of the opposition leader’s partner, then we do about a prime minister literally pocketing millions of tax payers money, and completely getting away with it.

Because in malta we only get influenced by what the prim minister and many love him because all they care off is that he is increasing their state pension.
She led to the legend that was the Boiler Nr. 7 Facebook page with this post: https://daphnecaruanagalizia.com/2010/03/the-boiler-with-a-personality/
She provided free sartorial advice even to those she swore she would never vote for: https://daphnecaruanagalizia.com/2017/10/first-things-first-something-horrendous-posture/
And: https://daphnecaruanagalizia.com/2017/05/michelle-muscat-blows-kisses-fashion-show-front-row-husband-shouts-chicken-prime-time-tv/
As you can see she had some strong opinions. In some cases she attacked people viciously because she did not know where to draw a line, and this angered some people. Some did not know how to take that criticism constructively and lashed out against her. Neville Gafa seems to take criticism aimed at him (https://daphnecaruanagalizia.com/2016/10/want-bribe-way-medical-visa-just-ring-muscats-mizzis-tool-neville-gafa/) and his beloved Labour party quite personally and he is still bitter about it.

She uncovered a shit ton of shady shit. Those that want the truth put up the reminders that there is need for justice.
Those that have shit to hide take it down to try make ppl forget and further dehumanize her even after her death.
Guys still butthurt after 8 years
Pussy won’t even try doing in the middle of the day
Plus he’s known for threatening people and journalists
Many big questions, I try to be as concise as I can.
1. Neville Gafà is a propogandist and blogger for the Labour Party. He was very close to Joseph Muscat and his fellow corrupt clique (Keith Schembri, mainly). In general he’s a twat https://timesofmalta.com/article/gafa-offered-libya-war-victims-350k-each-to-drop-claims-against-him.870925

OP – do you remember Daphne and her writings? Have you ever read her blog? At one point her blog was the most read news site in Malta with a wide reach:

She was a bloody excellent writer, and if you have never read her posts they were witty, intelligent, and sometimes funny.
