As much as I want to believe this as an Australian, I feel like those numbers probably aren’t completely representative of wider society. I feel like there’s a really large number of bigots that exist within our society and you just need to look at the semi-recent Rankine drama to see that. With that said, there’s also a good amount of Australians who definitely don’t give a hoot and are happy for everyone to live however they please and we all just go about our day and be as happy as we can. I hope my perceptions are wrong though and things are brighter than they seem.
People say this and then vote for bigots. It would be more accurate to say most people BELIEVE they support Trans rights but in practice will not do anything to actually provide support.

The only consistent thing about the discussion of transgender issues in Aus politics is that it’s only ever brought up to wedge the left on identity politics and social issues.
