After 2+ years of rock bottom relations over a Sikh nationalist’s murder in Canada, India and Canada have tentatively sketched out a road map to rebuild the strained relationship. That’s the result from a 2-day India trip by Canada’s foreign minister Anita Anand.

Canadian authorities are still investigating „transnational repression“ by India against Sikh nationalists in Canada but they’ve decided to be „pragmatic“. The reason? Trump.

Because both countries are suffering from high tariffs by Trump, so they’re both looking for more trade outside America – Like with each other. The word „trade“ showed up 8 times in the joint statements by the 2 foreign ministers.

The big loser here is Sikhs for Justice, the Sikh nationalist group that Nijjar was leading. They’re protesting, asking for an „ethics“ investigation on foreign minister Anand and calling for another (pointless) referendum in Canada on creating a „Khalistan“ Sikh state out of India.
