Please everyone donate if you can, consider becoming a donor if you’re not already. When you get that text after you’ve donated to say that your donation has just been issued to such-and-such a hospital, it really makes your day. It costs you nothing but could save someone’s life. Thank you.
Please explain. I have walked into a travelling blood donation clinic and was turned away as I did not have an appointment. They said I should sign up to their system and will get called to attend when they need donors. They have never called / emailed.
For those donating blood how do you do it, especially if you do not live near a permanent donation clinic?

Just done the eligibility test and apparently I can’t donate as I had cancer but I’ll phone them as there are some exceptions

Please consider donating, found out I have a rare blood type when donating and was told it was used for a baby in icu. It motivates me every time, plus guilt free chocolate afterwards

you cant actually make an appointment if you are a new donor. It is very confusing.
Dapper-Lab-9285 on
Let people do walk ups again and the number donating will increase, making appointments is too much hassle for most people.

Not allowed until at least 27th – they need a much larger donor base instead of relying on the same people time and again

I used to give regularly before a medical issue ruled me out, I can start donating again next June. I would highly recommend anyone that can donate, do donate.

Too bad I’m not eligible and I have AB, the not so common type.

I’ve a rare blood type. I also have mad cow disease from eating a Big Mac in the UK in the 90s. Did they change that thing at all?

Why not offer financial incentives if supplies are low? €10-20 a pint or something low. Would get a lot more people motivated, particularly in the current cost-of-living crisis.

I donated once in the past and planned on starting doing it regularly starting this month. I ended up being scheduled for surgery in a few weeks so I couldn’t donate at the clinic this month but they’ll be back in February so hopefully I’ll be able to donate then.

There are fuck all clinics happening these days compared to a few years back when I last donated. I was away for a few years and since I’ve come back I’ve signed up to the lists for my own and neighbouring counties, and there has been once in the last 8 months. I’m shocked by it. No wonder there’s a shortage of blood, I’m not driving 2 fucking hours to donate it and then driving back home after.

Just signed up there. Did it once before and it was grand. A little uncomfortable but nothing bad. Id recommend it to anyone. Easy way to make a difference

Is there anything you can do if you are not eligible to donate?

I donate regularly, you have to wait at least 90 days between donations, I actually wouldn’t mind going once a month tbh. My next one isn’t until December, which seems silly given how low they are right now

I would love to but i had a blood transfusion when i was six so i cant donate. If the rules changed tomorrow i’d be breaking down the door sleeve rolled up ready to let them take it!

My husband just signed up today to give blood over the weekend.
I’m not eligible for medical reasons unfortunately, but I would if I could.

I tried donating, signed up through giveblood.ie, took a day off work, went to the facility on D’Olier Street and answered 100 questions. When it got to the point of actually giving blood though, they couldn’t find any suitable veins and sent me home.
I’m not opposed to giving blood but I don’t want to waste another day if they’re just going to send me home again.

Thanks for the reminder. I just called them to make an appointment as I’m O negative. But I’m ineligible because I’m on Ozempic 😔

Of course there has to be controls, but Ireland still has overly strict restrictions. Me and my boyfriend went to donate, which we were very excited about since MSM were only recently allowed to, but found out neither of us could. Me because I’m on medication which other countries allow with doctor’s permission and him because he’s from South America and there’s an outright ban on them.

I can’t donate but a blood transfusion saved my life.
I never forget the weight of that. If you are eligible to donate, PLEASE DO!

I sound like a selfish prick, I was a regular donor before Covid but after that appointments bookings were needed, I said fine less waiting but no, it was so disorganised, despite the fact I had a time slot, still needed to to wait 2 hours. I seldom donate since, due to the long waits after a working day.
Just to show how low they are running. Please donate if you can. My sister needed 4 blood transfusions and I’m so so grateful she’s still here. She gave blood regularly but now can’t as she’s received transfusions

I usually donate as often as they let you but I’m in the year after having a baby so can’t until December! Please donate if you can!

if you are a regular toker / cannabis consumer can u donate?
My last donation (a few weeks ago) was issued to Crumlin hospital. So there may be some Dub wandering around with some of my blood in them!!

Huh, I’m surprised to learn that allergies that have caused anaphylaxis in the past render you ineligible. I have two allergies (one to penicillin, one food allergy). I guess logically it makes sense that it can transfer the allergy, but I wonder if supplies are that short if it would make sense to have a separate pool. Like “congrats, you’ve survived your car crash, but you can’t get penicillin now” seems better than bleeding out for a shortage of transfusions.
