It’s just Dwayne being Dwayne, but with a wig and fake ears.

People are not going to the movies. An average ticket is now $20. Most people can’t afford that. So they’re a lot more selective in what they choose to see in the theater today.

The issue for Dwayne Johnson is he signed up for every goofy movie going, and many audiences are exhausted with him being everywhere.

Sure, this film *might* be a great performance, but he’s spent too long taking the money doing mediocre films playing the exact same guy for audiences to bother.

Isn’t the film a shot-for-shot copy of the original?

I do want to see it. I just haven’t been able to go since I will do my shout at the movies in October with one battle after another.

I didn’t see Smashing Machine, no real interest in the story for me, but I do respect Dwayne for trying to become more of a respected actor instead of just a generic box office super character. I don’t really think the low profit proves anything other than not many people who care about early UFC are also into sports drama movies

Assuming the performance is actually good, I think the people who matter in film are gonna make note of it and it’ll open up new avenues for Dwayne so like I still think this movie will do for him what he wanted it to even if the internets full conclusion has been “haha it flopped”. I’m sure A24 wanted there money back on it, but for the Rock he didn’t really need it to succeed at all, he just wanted an avenue to display a different version of his as an actor

Saw it at the weekend, it was okay. Some parts are just glossed over so quickly, like 20 seconds on an opioid addiction recovery that had no emotional development. The first half of the movie was not particularly engaging or relatable. There was some good emotional scenes towards the end, particularly the last fights with his girlfriend. It definitely could have used a good training montage, give us that Rocky feeling. Overall I’d give it a 6.5, good enough but missing depth to make it worth watching. 

I don’t plan to watch it, but the problem for me is whenever I saw the trailers all I saw was Dwayne Johnson and not who he was portraying.

I’ve only heard good things about this film. If that’s truly the case, then it will have legs on streaming and people will make their way to it. But I’m not surprised The Rock didn’t draw audiences to the theaters. The whole Black Adam debacle really did a number on his box office appeal.

God help us if we get a Johnson in a Nolan film. Just imagine. Could actually work

Director trying to promote his movie. Oh damn!

Poor Rock, needed to call in a favor. You can tell he hates online criticism, even if the vast majority of people like him. He just doesn’t have that much range. 

Genuinely, fuck the rock.

The script is mediocre and DJ is as well. It’s a valiant effort but anyone who’s been around opioid addiction will feel how hollow this is. Not to mention you need a real heavyweight **actor** to play the dichotomy of a sweet person with a horrible monster inside of them, and Dwayne just doesn’t have the chops. The whole thing is a big cliche tbh – and it’s a shame because it’s a decent story.
