This reminds me a lot of how the Catholic Church controlled Europe in the Medieval era. Anything they didn’t like politically was „against god“. They had the entire population eating what and when the Church demanded, treating disease with prayer instead of medicine, and deeply believing that everything bad was caused by one’s own „sins“.
