As intended. New companies and new technologies threaten the status quo. Under no circumstance may anything change, ever. The ultra rich just want to sit back, jerk off and see that money counter go to infinity. God forbid they would actually need to work for it.
I have a problem with the artificial binary categorization of scientists vs engineers. One can be both, and good scientists and engineers generally have lots of elements of each.
