Should be entirely funded by people who want to watch RTE, I have 0 interest. TG4 should be funded by arts grants.

I wait until the end of the next year to pay it. Was due in September- will pay it next August.
I suggest everyone who pays it do the same as a protest.
I love how the blame for this falls solely at the feet of Ryan Tubridy, the man who single-handedly cost RTE 58 million Euro. And of course after all that, he wants them to take him back lol. May he rot in radio Norwich.
Hmm…from what I read, convictions are more for ignoring the court order/summoning, than the actual non payment…..

From a pure optics POV enforcement of a TV license can’t be done while literal gangs of scroutes roam the streets untouchable.
Because the state has gotten so weak on real crime it can’t possibly try enforce minor „infringements“

I just dont watch TV.
I do not want this service. We already pay huge numbers in tax every year and yet all of our services just degrade.
I used to be more than happy to pay my taxes but these days it just seems like it’s all going to waste.
Convictions for non payment of a TV licence is a horrible thing when you think of it.
It never should’ve been a thing in the first place. Convictions ruin lives. You can go to court and have thousands in debt written off and everyone will applaud and say it was a good deal, but the same court could seriously fuck up your life if you don’t have this €160 sheet of paper.
The whole system is wrong. Got a large PC monitor. I don’t watch TV and certainly not RTE. They arrive at the door claiming you have to pay as you have the ability to watch it. If I have a cow in the back garden it doesn’t mean I have milk in the fridge!

Mine was due in August and I just sit there going to pay and something stops me every time. Reading these articles and then about aul ones being dragged to court and I just sit there wondering why bother.
I have a TV, but I don’t watch any live TV and stream everything. My TV is mainly used for gaming and I just resent the whole thing, especially when you see how absolutely nonsensical RTE are with their spending.
I’ll probably pay it, because my name was previously on it, I’ve now just started using fake names and „the resident“. But knowing my name is there somewhere is very unnerving and just makes me crack and pay every single time. I feel like a chump.
TV licence and chasing TV licence payments is just archaic stuff from the last century. Some of the gotcha stuff of inspectors is no different from ambulance chasing nonsense.
Move on, put it in general taxation or levy it in small amounts on all devices/subscriptions which can use RTE content. People would barely notice an extra 2 euro on phone credit top-ups or internet subscriptions. All of a sudden, everyone is paying a few quid monthly, and it adds up to the same overall figure.
Reallocate the staff to do something meaningful in the public service or revenue. Like reducing hospital waiting lists, Tusla (god knows where to start) or backlogs in admin/correspondence.
EDIT: a few staff being reallocated is unlikely to change the above issues significantly. The point is just put them to work in an impactful manner.

Got a note through the door a few weeks ago about it. Fuck ‘em. I don’t actually have the station and no means of picking it up on the tv.
I haven’t paid a TV license in over a decade because I don’t have a TV. And more folks I know are doing the same.
If my TV license paid for actual programming made in Ireland and not limited to a small clique of people, sure. I’d pay it. But I’m not going to pay money to buy Simpson’s syndication rights and large salaries for number of hosts – some fuelled by coke.
I’d rather donate the same amount of money each year to hospice.
The sooner rte is gone, the better.

Why not make RTE subscription based and do away with the TV licence. The rest of us can be left alone and the people who want to watch RTE can pay for it and fund them out of their own pocket.

Them calling the tax „sales“ pisses me off. You haven’t sold me anything, I’m paying a tax for owning a TV.
Got an inspector notice in the door . Thankfully nobody knocks in to my place so I don’t answer my door .

my renewal was up at the time of the tubridy scandal and i stopped paying out of principle. they sent one warning, then stopped sending them until about 2 months ago. haven’t received anything since. it’s like they know they don’t have a leg to stand on.
Why not get rid of the TV licence and fund the public broadcaster through normal taxation?

Conviction for not paying TV license is bullshit. Actually, TV license is bullshit.
Before monitors, I used TVs as screens for computers. I am sure many did the same.
Realistically, there’s no way for them to prove you’ve a TV. License inspector knocked last week but I wasn’t home. Left a yoke in the letterbox to say they knocked and we weren’t home. If they come back I’ll just say I don’t have a TV. There’s absolutely no way they can prove that and I certainly won’t be granting them access to my home.
i really hate the way they refer to tv licences as „sales“ as if it’s a voluntary choice by the consumer to spend their money on a product. are you really „selling“ something if your customers are threatened with legal action for not buying it?

Received summons last month completely forgot about it too much going on wife in hospital at time and high blood pressure, then my dad her cousin and uncle died all in three weeks, rang paid had it sorted but fucking he’ll it’s a joke as people say it’s comical that people get away with so much yet a tv licence can screw you more so.
In fairness always paid it in truth don’t agree with it but paid.
