I (41 years old) experienced end stage kidney failure due to a genetic disorder and received a kidney transplant about 2.5 years ago. I have to take suppression medications to prevent my immune system from attacking the kidney as a foreign object. The transplant has a predicted lifespan of 15-20 years. I’m very hopeful that when it comes time for a(nother) new kidney, I’ll be able to have one grown from my stem cells and let my immune system return to full strength.
